IEEE SIGNAL PROCESSING SOCIETY /| /| / |ICIP / | 1996 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON IMAGE PROCESSING /__|____/ | September 16-19, 1996 | |____|__| Swiss Federal Institute of Technology | / | / Lausanne, Switzerland | / 96 | / |/______|/ SPECIAL SESSION CALL FOR PAPERS: RANGE IMAGE ANALYSIS: an easy way from images to objects? ========================================================= Co-Chairs: Dr John Illingworth (University of Surrey, U.K.) Prof Frank Ferrie (McGill University, Canada) This special session will deal with the analysis of range image data such as that typically derived from non-contact coordinate measuring machines i.e. active or structured light sensors. The session will encompass all aspects of analysis of such data going from low level enhancement and segmentation, through geometric fusion of 2-1/2 data into full 3D surfaces and onto the use of derived surface or non surface-based representations for tasks ranging from reverse engineering to object recognition. Novel papers describing new ideas, formalisms and applications are invited in any of the following or related areas: - range image segmentation - multiview range image fusion - fusion of range with other sensor modalities - surface representation and analysis - quantitative and qualitative 3D shape representations - multiscale 3D representations - reverse engineering: range images to CAD - commercial applications of range image analysis: multimedia, virtual reality, automated design, medical surgery guidance etc SUBMISSION PROCEDURES: Prospective authors are invited to propose papers in any of the technical areas listed above. To submit a proposal, prepare a 2-3 page summary of the paper including figures and references. Send five copies of the paper summary and a cover sheet stating the (1) paper title, (2) contact author's name, (3) address, (4) telephone number, (5) Fax number, and (6) electronic mail address to one of the Co-Chairs: Dr John Illingworth Professor Frank Ferrie Vision, Speech and Signal Centre for Intelligent Machines, Processing Group, McGill University, University of Surrey, 3480 University Street, Guildford GU2 5XH Montreal, Surrey Quebec United Kingdom Canada H3A 2A7 Each selected paper (four-page limit) will be published in the Proceedings of ICIP-96, using high-quality paper for good image reproduction. Style files in LaTeX will be provided for the convenience of the authors. SCHEDULE: Paper due: 2 February 1996 Notification of Acceptance/Rejection: 9 April 1996 Camera-Ready papers: 31 May 1996 Conference: 16-19 September 1996
