Classical Scale-Space

Classical scale-space was introduced by Witkin and Koenderink to
unconfound image processing from the image sensor grid details in a
physical least committed sense. The theory makes differentiation
operational and well-posed and thereby makes the tool of differential
geometry available for image processing. However, the understanding of
the scale space of an image including the free degree of freedom of
scaling is important. Only recently the first attempts have been made
to explore and use this degree of freedom.

In this summer school, we have gathered some of the best researchers
in the field of classical scale space theory and related topics to
give lectures and discuss the future development in scale space
theories. Topics included are the fundamental scale-space theory,
scale selection, the topological structure of scale-space,
feature-detection, non-linear scale-spaces, and morphology.

Lecturers

The Classical Scale-Space Theory PhD-school will be given by the
following researchers from the field of Computer Vision:

    * The Fundamentals of Scale-Space:
Jan J. Koenderink (principal lecturer), Tony Lindeberg, and Luc Florack.
    *The structure of Scale-Space:
       Peter Johansen and Alfons Salden.
    *Applications:
Bart ter Haar Romeny, Tony Lindeberg, and Mads Nielsen.
    *Non-linear Scale-Space and Morphology:
Joachim Weickert, Bart ter Haar Romeny, and Rein van den Boomgaard.

A practical note: The number of participants will be limited, and
there will be presentations of 20 minutes each.

Registration fee and living expenses

The school fee is DKR 1000 covering Lunch, Dinner, materials,
etc. These are to be paid in advance as a Bank-Check in Danish Kroner
(DKR) before April 1st to:

We have made arrangements with Ibsens Hotel for double rooms at a
price of DKR 550 per room per day including breakfast, that is DKR 275
per person per day. The reservations are made through the
PhD-school (on the registration form) before February 1st, but
the payment is to be settled directly with the hotel during the stay.

Admittance and Presentations

We hope to admit everyone wishing to attend the PhD-School, but we do
have an upper limit to the number of participants. If the limit is
reached, admittance will be based on the letter of relevance (as noted
on the registration form) and/or on the submitted abstract.

The deadline for abstracts is February 1st and should be
approximately 1 page. Deadline for the full article of max.
8 pages is April 1st.

Important dates to notice

February 1st: Deadline for registration, hotel reservation and abstracts
    March 1st: Notification of admittance.
April 1st: Deadline for Registration-fee and articles.
May 10th: First day of the Scale-Space Theory School.
May 13th: Last day of the Scale-Space Theory School.
