                  JOINT ISPRS COMMISSION III/IV WORKSHOP

"3D Reconstruction and Modeling of Topographic Objects" -

Integration of multiple information sources and image understanding

                           Stuttgart, Germany
                         17-19 September, 1997

organised by the ISPRS Working Groups:

WG III/4 "Image Understanding/Object Recognition"
WG IV/2 "Digital Terrain Models, Orthoimages and 3D GIS"
Intercommission WG IV/III.2 "Integration of Image Analysis and GIS"

Program Committee: Emmanuel Baltsavias, ETH Zurich
Wolfgang Eckstein, Munich University of Technology
                    Eberhard Guelch, University Bonn
                    Michael Hahn, University Stuttgart/Queensland Univ.
                   Gerhard Sagerer, University Bielefeld
                    Klaus Tempfli, ITC Enschede
                    Roy Welch, University of Georgia

The workshop wants to bring together specialists in image analysis,
digital photogrammetry, GIS and cartography to discuss the current
state of automatic procedures for acquiring object information from
images and maps. It will deal only with topograhic objects,
especially in urban regions, and will focus on 3-D approaches. The
goal is to find common object models and analysis strategies with
emphasis on the integration of multiple information and knowledge
sources. The topics will refer to basic research or advanced
applications of digital photogrammetry and computer vision for
geo-database generation and update.

As such we solicit papers in the following areas:

(1) 3D object recognition and extraction

(2) 3D object models in image analysis and GIS

(3) Integration of multiple cues and knowledge sources:
        o GIS supported object recognition
o Use of DSMs and orthoimages for object extraction

(4) 3D GIS database generation and update, with emphasis on urban
     applications

(5) Encapsulation, representation, and use of knowledge

(6) Use of image analysis for extracting height information for
     2D geo-databases

We will prefer unpublished work, even if it is not complete yet. The
workshop will consist of invited, oral and possibly poster
presentations. Approximately 30 minutes will be allocated for paper
presentation. The Workshop directly proceeds the Photogrammetric
Week '97 Conference and can be favourably combined with it.

Paper submissions for review should be approximately 8 pages long
including figures, tables and references, single spaced using a 12
point font. Alternatively 1000-word extended abstracts may be
submitted for review and should convey the technical approach and
results of the research. Authors should give their full address
including phone, fax and e-mail. In case of multiple authors,
indicate the name of one author for further contacts. If you wish,
you can indicate one of the three WGs for which your paper is
intended.

Please send three (3) copies of FULL PAPERS or EXTENDED ABSTRACTS
