BMVC97 THE EIGHTH BRITISH MACHINE VISION CONFERENCE University of Essex 8-11 September 1997 The 1997 British Machine Vision Conference (BMVC) commences at 09:00 on 9th September and ends at tea-time on 11th September. In addition to papers describing novel research in machine vision and related areas, the Conference also features invited talks from two non-UK vision researchers: Prof R Duin of the Technical University of Delft, The Netherlands and Prof S Peleg of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. The conference is preceded on the afternoon of 8th September by a tutorial on the Image Understanding Environment (IUE) by David Cooper and Andrew Fitzgibbon of the Universities of Manchester and Oxford respectively. One day of the conference, 10th September, has been denoted INDUSTRY DAY. The morning of this day will comprise oral presentations of papers that have particular industrial relevance, while the afternoon will consist of poster presentations and an industrial exhibition. Participation in Industry Day is included in the conference fee. People who only wish to attend or exhibit at Industry Day may do so at a reduced rate. (Note that this fee does not include accommodation or the conference dinner.) The full conference registration fees include attendance at the conference, a copy of the conference proceedings in printed and CD-ROM forms, attendance at the conference dinner on Wednesday 10th September and lunches on 9th, 10th and 11th September. The residential fee includes dinner, bed and breakfast accommodation for the nights of 8th, 9th and 10th September. All accommodation has en-suite shower and WC facilities. Some rooms may be available for wheelchair users: please contact the organisers if you require one. A limited number of student bursaries are available, with preference given to students presenting a paper. Students who wish to be considered for a bursary should contact the Secretariat at the address overleaf.
