***** CALL FOR PAPERS *****
"Compression and Complexity of SEQUENCES 1997"
Positano (Amalfitan Coast) - Salerno, Italy
June 11-13 1997
This conference will bring together european and international researchers
to exchange ideas and results related to the theoretical and practical aspects
of Data Compression, Complexity, and Manipulation of Strings.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to: Lossless and lossy data
compression, source coding, string algorithms, statistical classification and
pattern recognition, information retrieval, closest-match retrieval, minimal
length encoding and applications to learning, parallel algorithms for
pattern recognition, information retrieval, closest-match retrieval, minimal
length encoding and applications to learning, parallel algorithms for
compression and string manipulation, applications in molecular biology.
Papers reporting on original research unpublished elsewhere are primarily
sought. Surveys of important results, especially recent ones, are also invited.

LOCATION:
Positano is a cluster of white and pink small houses clinging to the rocks,
set steeply over the transparent blue sea. It is the perfect location for a
conference: a small and wonderful village in the most beautiful corner of the
world. The conference will be held at the Hotel Covo dei Saraceni, a
former fisherman's house whose name 'Den of the Saracens' is a reminder of
the marauding pirates who once tormented Italy's Amalfi Coast. Besides the
Covo, other Positano hotels have special rates for SEQUENCES97, for more
information check out our Web page.
* WARNING *: Positano is a celebrated touristic location. June is already high
season and the Hotels are booked up even one year in advance. In our Web page
you will find a list of some of the Hotels available in Positano, including
their room prices and their telephone and fax numbers. If you plan to attend
the conference do your hotel reservation in advance!
SUBMISSION:
Authors should send by surface mail (NOT fax or email: Air Courier is strongly
recommended) four copies of an extended abstract of 8 to 10 pages (including
affiliation, address, phone number and email address) by February 18, 1997 to:
Dr. Bruno Carpentieri
Dipartimento di Informatica ed Applicazioni "R. M. Capocelli"
Universita' di Salerno
84081 Baronissi (SA)
ITALY
NOTIFICATION:
Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection via email by March 20,1997.
A final camera-ready draft is due April 4, 1997.
PROCEEDINGS:
The hard-bound conference proceedings will be published by IEEE Press.
To encourage new ideas and interactions between researchers as well as review
and feedback on presentations, a preliminary soft-cover proceedings will be
distributed at the conference. After the conference the final hard-bound
proceedings will be mailed to all participants and made available to the
public by the IEEE.
