Topics of interest include but are not limited to: Source coding, quantization theory, parallel compression algorithms and hardware, lossless and lossy compression algorithms for specific types of data (including text, images, video, speech, music, maps, instrument data, graphics, animation, and bit-maps), data compression standards, bi-level coding, transform methods, wavelet and fractal techniques, string searching and manipulation, closest-match retrieval, minimal length encoding and applications to learning, system issues relating to data compression (including error control, data security, indexing, and browsing), medical imagery, scientific and space data. SUBMISSIONS: Authors should send by surface mail (NOT fax or email) four copies of an extended abstract of 8 to 10 pages (including affiliation, address, phone number, and email address) by 11/14/97 to: Prof. Martin Cohn, Computer Science Department, Brandeis University, Waltham, MA 02254 (questions can be sent to dcc@cs.brandeis.edu). Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection via email by 12/19/97. A final camera-ready draft is due 1/16/98. INDUSTRY WORKSHOP: On the day following the conference is a Workshop on Industrial Applications; contact Susan Haggerty (303-939-5083, shagerty@ball.com). TRANSPORTATION / HOTEL: Delta Air Lines has special fares that do not require Saturday night stay; call 800-241-6760 and specify that you are with IEEE-DCC, File No. 104783A.
