Climate : --------- The period between November and February is the most pleasant time to visit Bombay, when the city enjoys a balmy season of blue skies and a cool breeze. The temperature during the day remains somewhere between 20 to 30 degrees Celsius and at night it drops to around 15 degrees Celsius. Travel : -------- This is to give you some information about reaching IIT Bombay or TIFR (as the case maybe) from the Railway station/Airport. Something to keep in mind: -------------------------- In Bombay, IITB is more commonly known as IIT-Powai. Thus Powai is a much better landmark than IIT. TIFR is located in Navy Nagar, thus a much better land mark for TIFR is Navy Nagar. Please ask the taxi driver for Navy Nagar. Taxi Fares: ----------- The taxi fare from the Sahar Airport (International Airport) to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Powai is around Rs. 140/- and from the SantaCruz Airport (Domestic Airport) it is around Rs. 200/-. The taxi fare from the Sahar Airport (International Airport) to Homi Bhabha Auditorium (Navy Nagar or TIFR) is around Rs. 250/- and from the SantaCruz Airport (Domestic Airport) it is around Rs. 210/-. Instruct the taxi driver to take you to the Navy Nagar bus stop on Homi Bhabha Road, Colaba. Taxis have meters, and you need to 'pay by meter' only. Cool cabs are also available if one is willing to pay a higher price for that ( it is around 1.3 times the normal taxi fare ). Anyway they have their own meters and you need to pay according to their meter only. The taxi fares are around 1.25 times the normal charges from midnight till 5 AM ( Again you need to pay by 'night' meter only ). For directions it is safe enough to ask at any of the shops on the road. Avoid asking any trespasser. Taxi drivers also, in most of the cases, can be relied upon. Documents ---------- Please be careful with your passport and other important documents. It is not safe to leave them unattended in the hotel or any other place. Please note that Navy Nagar, where Homi Bhabha Auditorium is located, has been declared a Prohibited Area by the Indian Navy. The Naval Police insist that visitors to the Homi Bhabha are allowed only on the Homi Bhabha Road. Photography is prohibited in Navy Nagar. Visitors are not permitted to visit the shops situated in Navy Nagar. Some essential shopping can be done in a shop located in basement B at Bhaskara ( the biggest building in the Housing Colony ) which is open from Tuesday-Saturday between 12.00 noon to 7.00 PM. Preferably eat cooked food; avoid roadside food, vendors; use sealed bottles for water (Bisleri, Yes etc.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- U. B.
