Image Processing and Understanding Course

 Date: 9 - 11 November 1998

At the Defence Evaluation & Research Agency (DERA), Malvern,
 Worcestershire, UK

 - A comprehensive tutorial on the key practical aspects of image
 processing and image understanding techniques.
 - Learn how to use and apply the technology.
 - Learn how to decide what processes and techniques to use to tackle
 important applications and problems.
 - Up to date course given by key experts from top research groups:

Prof. J. M. Brady - University of Oxford
Dr R. Cipolla - University of Cambridge
Dr M. J. Varga - Defence Evaluation & Research Agency

 What will you learn?

Background and current state-of-the-art - the theoretical basis of
 image processing and understanding techniques.

The course will give the individual insight into a variety of complex
algorithms as they apply to different applications. Three days of
practical learning and in depth teaching through formal lectures will
be reinforced by on-line demonstrations of existing systems and
approaches. This will enable the individual to:

 - Learn about the techniques
 - Understand the differences between the various algorithms
 - Assess the performance of different techniques and understand how to
 match techniques to applications.

Topics covered include techniques and theory for sensor imaging,
digitisation, filtering, object detection and classification, image
 matching, image analysis, overall processes.

Participants will receive a comprehensive set of lecture notes for all
the topics covered in the course.

 Who should attend?

Anyone involved in research and development in image/video processing,
analysis and understanding: Engineers - Software & System Developers -
 Industrial Scientists - Research Scientists

The course is considered by the IEE to be suitable for the
maintenance or enhancement of a competence relevant to an
 individual's Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
