The goal of WACV98 is to provide a forum in which an international
group of industrial, government, and academic researchers can present
and discuss the application of computer vision techniques to problem
domains of practical significance.
 
The preliminary program for WACV'98 is attached below. The program
consists of 35 contributed papers distributed over 9 single track
sessions.  The acceptance rate was 33.3%  There are also 4 demonstration
sessions with a total of 28 demonstrations.
 
In addition to the contributed papers and demonstrations, the WACV98
program includes an invited keynote presentation, an invited panel
discussion and tours of local vision laboratories (Sarnoff, Siemens, NEC
etc.) in the Princeton area.
 
The invited keynote presentation is titled  "Using the latest technical
and computer advancements to  create the illusion that visual effects
were not used at all". It will be given by Rob Legato of Digital Domain.
Rob Legato recently won an Academy Award for his work as  Visual Effects
Supervisor  for James Camerons Titanic".
 
The title  for the panel discussion  "Is Vision Ready for Prime Time:
Challenges and Opportunities in the World of Entertainment". The
tentative list of speakers for the Panel Discussion are:  Padmanandhan
Anandan (Microsoft), Gerard Medioni (USC), Paul Debevec (UC Berkeley),
Bill Freeman (MERL), Luc Robert (INRIA),  and Harpreet Sawhney
(moderator from Sarnoff).
