 Multi-media Data Compression

One Day BMVA Technical Meeting at British Institute of Radiology,
London, UK on 2nd Dec 1998

The rapid growth in volume, quality and diversity of images, text and
speech collected by a variety of acquisition systems and devices has
outpaced existing data transmission, storage and retrieval systems.
These data types require large storage capacity and/or bandwidth, which
can be very expensive. This is particularly true of a variety of
sensor-based images (e.g. satellite and astronomical, textual data and
speech recording) where characteristics differ immensely.

This workshop aims to cover some of the current state-of-the-art
technologies in multi-media compression that are used or
 under-development.
