DIMACS WORKSHOP ON COMPUTER VISION AND ROBOTICS Presented under the auspices of the Special Year on Large Scale Discrete Optimization. March 21 - 23, 1999 Rutgers University, CoRE Building, Piscataway, NJ Organizers: Jitendra Malik , University of California - Berkeley, malik@cs.berkeley.edu Jean Ponce, University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign, ponce@cs.uiuc.edu Confirmed speakers: COMPUTER VISION ROBOTICS David Forsyth (Berkeley) Greg Hager (Yale) Leonidas Guibas (Stanford) Martial Hebert (CMU) Jan Koenderink (Utrecht) Lydia Kavraki (Rice) Jitendra Malik (Berkeley) David Kriegman (UIUC) David Mumford (Brown) Jean-Paul Laumond (LAAS) Ramin Zabih (Cornell) Bud Mishra (NYU) Andrew Zisserman (Oxford) Mark Overmars (Utrecht) Jean Ponce (UIUC) WEB PAGE: http://dimacs.rutgers.edu/Workshops/Robotics/ Objectives: This workshop will address the fundamental mathematical and computational problems underlying computer vision and robotics. A set of talks from major researchers in the field will help give a perspective on the leading issues today and the likely directions for future progress. Points of contact with computer science theory and algorithms, probabilistic inference, and other areas of applied mathematics in general will be stressed. The intended audience for the workshop is formed of students and practitioners of applied mathematics and computer science. The invited speakers will present various facets of vision and robotics, including object recognition, image segmentation, motion analysis, mobile robot navigation, visual servoing, geometric motion planning and object manipulation. Registration: There is a $20/day registration fee to be collected on site, cash or check only. This fee is waived for Postdocs and graduate students. Posters: There will be a poster session the afternoon of Monday, March 22. Student participants are invited to submit posters. Please contact Dr. Jitendra Malik (malik@cs.berkeley.edu) if you wish to submit a poster. Accomodations: There are a number of hotels near DIMACS in the Rutgers/Piscataway area. See the workshop web page for more details. Program: Stay tuned on the web page for the advance program. It will be available shortly.
