DIRECT VERSUS INDIRECT METHODS OF SENSOR ORIENTATION a workshop of ISPRS Commission III, THEORY AND ALGORITHMS WG III/1, INTEGRATED SENSOR CALIBRATION AND ORIENTATION hosted by the Institute of Geomatics (Generalitat de Catalunya & Universitat Polit=E8cnica de Catalunya) First Announcement and Call for Participation Workshop Objectives: informative and useful versus formal This meeting intends to bring together researchers, technology developers and production engineers to compare and discuss the pros and cons of direct and indirect methods of sensor orientation in photogrammetry and remote sensing. The organizers, aware of the current high competitiveness in the area, are trying to set the conditions for a useful, informative and informal two-day meeting in a relaxed atmosphere, and expect to attract the real experts with hands-on experience on the subject. Paper submission: up-to-date and flexible versus formal Send us an abstract by the end of September and you will receive a notice of acceptance by mid October. Send a paper or copies of your overheads by November 15 and tell the audience about your latest results in the meeting. That's it! Deadline for abstracts (1 page) September 30, 1999 Notification of acceptance: October13, 1999 Deadline for papers or overheads for publishing. November 15, 1999 Please, submit your abstracts as MS Word documents or in rtf-format, if possible by e-mail, to Ms. Isabel Moya (address: see organization below). Workshop Topics * Trajectory and attitude determination with INS/GPS * Indirect sensor orientation by Image Processing Techniques (AAT) * Direct sensor orientation by INS/GPS * Direct methods and the calibration problem * Practical experiences * Direct vs. Indirect methods Registration and fees Please register by sending the attached registration form to the organizer, indicating whether you intend to present a paper. Registration fees are as follows: Before October 31 EURO 140. On-site registration EURO 190 (Copies of the proceedings might be sent later by mail.). The workshop fee includes conference minutes and dinner on November, 25. CONFERENCE CHAIRPERSONS Prof. Peggy Agouris (chair, WG III.1), Dr. Ismael Colomina (co-chair, WG III.1). CONFERENCE SECRETARIAT Ms.Isabel Moya, Institute of Geomatics, (imoya@icc.es) Working Group III.1 of Commission III Terms of reference: * Single- and multi-sensor system calibration. * Automatic sensor orientation using GPS and INS information, and digital image processing techniques. * Automatic aerial triangulation. * Combination of sensor orientation/calibration algorithms with 3-D scene reconstruction. * Multi-sensor information integration (e.g. aerial and satellite imagery, radar data, multi-spectral imagery), in co-operation with WG III/2. http://www.spatial.maine.edu/~peggy/ISPRSWGIII1.html THE INSTITUTE OF GEOMATICS The Institute of Geomatics is a recently created public consortium of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Universitat Polit=E8cnica de Catalunya. Its mission is the development of Geomatics through applied research and education, for the general benefit. The Institute has started its activity this year with the first research projects and courses. BARCELONA Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia, with a population of about 1.700.000. It is located at the Mediterranean Sea in the North of the Spanish coast. Its cosmopolitan atmosphere and economic activity make Barcelona the most active city in Spain. One of the best attractions in the city, under a tourist point of view, is its architecture. Barcelona has been recently awarded the Royal Gold Medal of the Royal Institute of British Architects -the oldest and most prestigious architectural award in the world. It is the first time that the Royal Gold Medal has been awarded not to an individual or group of individuals but to a place The history of Barcelona is reflected on its monuments, there are examples of Romanesque and Gothic styles but most significant buildings have been constructed recently. Barcelona is one of the most important examples of Modernist architecture. Architects like Antoni Gaud=ED made great contributions to this style reflecting the aim of Barcelona to be always up-to-date. Modern architecture and urbanism, living together with early century modernist buildings and the gothic quarter, as well as the masterpieces in the museums of the city by Picasso, Mir=F3 and other famous artists, make the Catalan city a spot worth visiting by itself (http://www.bcn.es). VENUE The meeting will be held in the lecture hall of the Institut Cartografic de Catalunya (http://www.icc.es/). CONFERENCE SUPPORTERS Organizer: Institute of Geomatics, Barcelona, Spain.
