Working Group II/6 of the International Society for
Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) invites you to participate
in a workshop on "3D Geospatial Data Production: Meeting Application
Requirements," on April 7-9, 1999. The meeting is organized
in cooperation with the Societe Francaise de Photogrammetrie et de
Teledetection (SFPT) and the Institut Geographique National (IGN),
and will be hosted by the Institute Geographique National in
Paris, France. The workshop is organized around 16 selected papers
in the areas of cartographic feature extraction (buildings and roads),
generation of 3D urban models from non-traditional sources (maps and
terrestrial imagery), and commercial systems for automated mapping.
Each session will have papers dealing with evaluation methods and
metrics for various aspects of automated cartographic data production.
In keeping with the workshop atmosphere, three
panel sessions are planned in the areas of Research Evaluation,
Government Evaluation Requirements, and Research Community Metrics.
Nearly an entire day over the three day program is devoted to
panels and informal discussions. We believe that this will make
the workshop very useful to decision makers as well as research
community members. Finally, a tour of the IGN BD-TOPO production
facility is planned, as well as a reception at IGN the first evening.
Proceedings containing presented papers will be published in
the Bulletin of the Societe Francaise de Photogrammetrie et de
Teledetection. However, no formal paper or presentations are required
for your participation, just a willingness to contribute to the discussions.
The workshop program, registration information, hotel information
and further details can be obtained from the workshop web page,
 http://www.ign.fr/sfpt/manifestations/paris_99_us.html, or from
the Working Group web page at http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~MAPSLAB/isprs.html.

We would very much like to have you join us in Paris for this very
 topical and timely meeting.

 	Sincerely,
         Ghislaine Bordes, IGN, Workshop Secretary
Olivier Jamet, IGN, Working Group II/6 Co-chair
David M. McKeown, Carnegie Mellon, Working Group II/6 Co-chair
         J. Chris McGlone, Carnegie Mellon, Working Group II/6 Secretary
