C A L L f o r P A P E R S for International Workshop on Recognition, Analysis, and Tracking of Faces and Gestures in Real-Time Systems (RATFG-RTS'99) (http://www.cs.toronto.edu/iccv99/RATFG-RTS99) Corfu, Greece September 26-27, 1999 In conjunction with ICCV'99 Face and hand gesture recognition as well as their interpretation are complex and difficult computational tasks which are important for various application fields such as surveillance and security, intelligent computer interaction, telecommunication including telemedicine, distance learning, and others. These application fields are identified to play an important role in future industrial and multi-media applications as well as in the mass market. Common to all these application fields is that they have to meet relatively fixed real-time demands. SCOPE This workshop is intended to expand the scope of the ICCV Conference to novel approaches in the area of face and hand gesture recognition. One major goal of the workshop is to provide and discuss the relevance of recent developments to industrial applications. We would therefore also encourage the participation of the industry. It is intended to reserve sufficient room for discussions on real-time demands and system integration aspects. Another major item will encompass what is actually performable and which kind of methods are applicable for robust and reliable recognition and tracking tasks. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: - Localization and Tracking of Faces and Hands - Face Recognition and Facial Analysis, Emotions, and Expressions - Dynamics and Learning for Gesture Interpretation - Applications of Face and Hand Gesture Recognition - Applications in the area of Teleconferencing and Distance Learning - Retrieval of Faces in Video Sequences - Compression of Faces and Gestures with respect to MPEG Standards INVITED SPEAKERS James Crowley IMAG-PRIMA Group, France Bill Freeman MERL, USA Dimitris Metaxas University of Pennsylvania, USA Alex Pentland MIT Media Lab, USA Thomas Vetter MPI fuer Biol. Rainer Herpers, Department of Computer Science, University of Toronto Pratt Building, 6 King's College Road, Toronto, Ontario, M5S 3H5 CANADA E-Mail: herpers@vis.toronto.edu Submitted manuscripts should not exceed 8 pages in length including an abstract of approximately 300 words, references and figures. Text font should be Times Roman, a minimum of 12 point and 1.5 line spacing. A separate cover sheet stating: (1) paper title, (2) key words, (3) name, address, fax, and e-mail address of the contact author should be attached to each copy of the manuscript. Electronic submissions are welcome. Please upload a PS-file of your manuscript at the workshop ftp site: ftp://ftp.cs.toronto.edu/pub/iccv99/RATFG-RTS99/in.coming Please notify the committee when you have chosen electronic submission by sending an email to herpers@vis.toronto.edu. Papers must be received at the address given above no later than April 30th, 1999. All submissions will be reviewed by the Program Committee. Furthermore, demonstrations of program systems in the areas given above are welcome. Please contact any member of the organization committee for further informations. PROCEEDINGS Proceedings will be published by IEEE. Therefore, electronic submission of accepted papers is neccessary! It is planned to publish a selection of the best papers in a special issue of the International Journal of Image and Vision Computing.
