The conference will include, but is not restricted to, the following topics: * Content-based indexing, search and retrieval * Image databases * Visual data modeling * Visual information system architectures * Feature (invariant) retrieval * Picture representation languages * Query models * Optimization of pictorial queries * Compression and image content * Visualizing pictorial and non-pictorial information * Hypermedia of picture and text * Parallel processing in visual information systems * Image crawling the web * Picture book browsing * Delivery of visual information * Application areas of visual information systems * Interactive segmentation * Video databases * Benchmarking Visual Information Systems '99 has made a special arrangement with the IEEE's Conference on Multi Media Computing and Systems, ICMCS99 (http://www.dsi.unifi.it/~icmcs99), to be held on consecutive days from June 7 - 11 in Florence. There will be a special reduction in the fare when participating in both conferences. The conference is organized with the endorsement of IEEE (approval pending) IAPR (approval pending) the NVPHBV, the Dutch chapter of the IAPR TC12 for multi-media information processing of the IAPR PAPER SUBMISSION: As the conference papers will be published as a (preceedings) book in the Lecture Notes series by Springer Verlag GmbH, the format of the paper should follow the LNCS-style http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html. Further, due to the requirements of Springer, your contribution should be sent as a printed copy AND as an electronic version.
