 Intelligent Visual Surveillance
 http://www.bmva.ac.uk/meetings

One Day BMVA Colloquium to be held at British Institute of
Radiology, London, UK on 8th March 2000

Selected papers will also have the possibility of inclusion in a Special
 Issue of IVC

Despite the enormous and growing number of cameras installed in our
public spaces, today's visual surveillance systems enjoy neither
intelligent behaviour nor provide facilities for complex querying of
past or current events. Applications for such intelligent systems
include transport safety, security of public space, crime prevention and
commercial analysis. To achieve greater sophistication, there is a great
diversity of scientific problems that must be solved including reliable
image capture, robust and accurate event detection and object tracking,
efficient use of communications bandwidth, knowledge acquisition and
classification, as well as the development of intelligent storage and
 querying.

Papers are particularly welcomed in the following areas:
 * Detection and tracking of pedestrians and vehicles
 * Classification of objects and events
 * Modelling and recognition and actions, gestures and behaviour
 * Coding for low bandwidth systems
 * Fusion of data from multiple sensors
 * Database storage and Context-based retrieval of surveillance data
 * System training and learning

 Invited speakers include
 * Dr Carlo S. Regazzoni, Department of Biophysical and Electronic
   Engineering, University of Genova
 * Geoff Thiel, Primary Image (Vision)Ltd

 Submission date Jan 14th
for special issue of IVC on Visual Surveillance (full paper).
         for colloquium only (abstract).
