 The International Workshop on Multimedia Information Systems is the
 sixth of a series of workshops that started in 1995 with the aim of
 fosteringinterdisciplinary discussions and research in all aspects of
 multimedia information systems, in all their diversity. MIS 2000 will be
 
 held in Chicago, October 26-28, 2000, at the Marriott Chicago O'Hare,
 15 minutes away from the Chicago downtown area.
 MIS 2000 follows upon the success of the five workshops in this series
 that were held in Arlington (VA), West Point (NY), Como (Italy),
 Istanbul (Turkey), and Indian Wells (CA).
 
 The aim of this workshop is to bring together experts in all aspects of
 multimedia information systems, digital media content, multimedia
 database systems, networking, real-time systems, graphics and
 visualization, artificial intelligence, and algorithms.
 
 Areas of interest include but are not limited to:
 - Modeling, representation, and compression,
 - Multimedia indexing and retrieval by content,
 - Distributed multimedia systems and media servers,
 - Networking protocols and media delivery,
 - Quality of service and the future Internet,
 - Watermarking and data hiding,
 - Privacy, security, and copyright protection,
 - Real-time operating systems and fault tolerance,
 - Spatial and spatio-temporal storage and retrieval,
 - Query processing and optimization,
 - Performance evaluation and benchmarking,
 - Performance evaluation and benchmarking,
 - Multimedia data mining, summarization, and warehousing,
 - Document management,
 - XML, content description, and standards,
 - Distant learning, virtual meetings, and interactive applications,
 - E-commerce applications,
 - Multimedia over mobile networks.
 
 INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS:
 Authors are invited to submit full papers or extended abstracts (around
 10 pages long) or one-page descriptions of panel proposals by
 June 16, 2000.
 Selection will be based on originality and contribution to the field.
 Manuscripts must be in English, typed in double spaced format in 12
 point font.
 Each paper/extended abstract should have an extra cover page with name,
 title, and address (including e-mail address) of the contact author and
 an abstract of no more than 200 words. Each panel proposal should
 include a list of proposed panelists. Electronic submissions are
 STRONGLY encouraged!

 JOURNAL SPECIAL ISSUE:
 In addition to the workshop proceedings, selected submissions will be
 chosen by the Program Committee to be submitted as full papers
 of a special issue of a journal (to be announced later).
