CALL FOR PAPERS 3rd International Conference on AUDIO- and VIDEO-BASED BIOMETRIC PERSON AUTHENTICATION Halmstad, Sweden, June 6-8, 2001 Important dates Paper submission deadline: January 15, 2001 Acceptance notification: March 1, 2001 Camera ready papers: April 10, 2001 The interest for security and multi-modal biometric signal processing has been increasing. The explosive growth of Internet and mobile telephony have contributed to this awareness. An important element of security is automatic authentication of persons. AVBPA has an ambition to bring together the leading biometric signal analysis researchers of image and voice modalities, in an attempt to contribute with robust solutions to efficient and secure communication. The conference, that has been organized biannually, is an official event of the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR-TC14). SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM: The scientific program will include contributed and invited presentations dealing with all aspects of multi-modal biometrics. Contributions covering the topics below are solicited. However, all submissions addressing issues related to biometric signal analysis using audio and/or image processing techniques are strongly encouraged. Main technical areas are: Features and Measurements - Biometrics of face and voice - Biometrics of finger prints - Still image based features - Motion/depth based features - Audio and lip-movements - Text dependent/independent/prompted audio features - Multi-modal features Biometrics and Communication - Psychophysics of face, speech, and gesture - Audio-visual speech recognition - Categorization, e.g. age and gender - Gesture interpretation - Audio-visual tracking - Source coding and compression Decision Strategies - Training procedures - Efficient Enrollment - Sensor fusion - Decision fusion - Protocols and benchmarking - Databases and standardization Architecture and Hardware - Resolution and color in recognition - Special sensors - Compact embedded systems - Smart cards - Smart cars - Centralized or distributed systems Contest A contest will be organized on biometric algorithms. The results will be published in the proceedings. The details, i.e. on how to participate, the databases and the test protocols that will be used...etc., will be made available on the avbpa-home page. CONTACT INFO AND PAPER SUBMISSION The web and e-mail addresses of the conference are: http://www.hh.se/avbpa and Electronic mailto:avbpa@hh.se Accepted papers will be published in proceedings with Springer Verlag (LNCS). The papers should not exceed 6 pages and have abstracts with approximately 200 words. Word processing templates are available www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html (under Section "Proceedings..."). The important dates are given at the top and the bottom for convenience. Halmstad and the west cost of Sweden, well known to north European tourists, offer a beautifull experience of nature in June. The School of Information Science, Computer and Electrical Engineering at Halmstad University that organizes this event looks forward to welcome you in Halmstad.
