It is the second workshop of a series of workshops dealing with this specific topic. The first workshop was published in P. Perner and M. Petrou Machine Learning and Data Mining in Pattern Recognition MLDM99, lnai 1715, Springer Verlag 1999 and in a special issue of Pattern Recognition Letters. Paper submissions should be related but not limited to any of the following topics: - inductive learning including decision tree and rule induction learning - conceptual learning - case-based learning - statistical learning - neural net based learning and - organisational learning - probabilistic information retrieval related to image processing, image analysis, image interpretation, pattern recognition and computer vision. Applications can be medical applications, industrial applications, biological applications but are not limited to these topics. Researchers from the machine learning community are invited to present new topics in learning, which might be interesting to our research field. Participants should submit three copies of their contribution to: Institut für Bildverarbeitung und angewandte Informatik, Arno-Nitzsche-Str. 45, 04277 Leipzig Germany. In addition, participants should submit an electronic version of the manuscript to: < ibaiperner@aol.com >. For the latest news look for http://members.aol.com/ibaiperner/mldm2.htm. The paper should have no more than 15 pages (double-spaced) and present original work of the authors. Papers will be reviewed by the program committee. It is under consideration to publish workshop papers in Springer Verlag's Lecture Notes in Computer Sciences and an extended version of selected papers will be published in a special issue of the Pattern Recognition Letters after the workshop. Important Dates Deadline for paper submission March, 1st 2001 Final Paper submission May 15 th, 2001 Conference Location The workshop will be held at Kloster Seeon/Munich Germany. The former Benedictine convent - boasting over 1000 years of history - was thoroughly renovated and turned into an ideal setting for conferences and seminars.
