I am writing to you about the Student Forum for ICASSP 2001, which will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah, during May 7-11, 2001. The objectives of the forum are to provide the best opportunities for (1) young DSP engineers to share their research problems and to get know each other, (2) students to introduce themselves to the technical and industrial communities, and (3) participating companies to identify future qualified engineers and employees. Please share this message with your students and others who will benefit from the event. The Student Forum will consist of several poster sessions in which students can present their technical work. The abstracts selected for presentation in the Student Forum will be included in the Conference Proceedings and the abstract booklet along with regular papers. Since one of the objectives of the Student Forum is to facilitate interaction between industry and their potential employees, students are encouraged to include a short resume or biosketch in their poster. The deadline for the submission of abstracts for the forum is Jan. 22, 2001. Presentations are accepted based on abstract only (no paper will be submitted or published), which must be submitted electronically via the ICASSP 2001 paper submission page (see http://www.icassp2001.org for details). These abstracts must follow the same guidelines outlined for abstracts of regular papers. However, the limit on the number of papers one can co-author does not apply to Student Forum papers. If the work is based on results obtained jointly with others, they should be properly acknowledged. In keeping with the objectives of the Student Forum, we will try to accommodate as many presentations as possible at the event. We especially encourage students to present preliminary results that are not necessarily ready for publications as a regular paper at ICASSP or in technical journals. In the same spirit, we may be able to include in the Student Forum papers that could not be accommodated in the regular sessions at ICASSP 2001. We also encourage presentation of open problems at the forum as a means of finding collaborators or new ideas for possible solutions. Finally, if a student so desires, he/she may present the same material at both the Student Forum and a regular session. If you have any questions regarding the Student Forum, please contact me using e-mail at dhyoun@ee.utah.edu. I look forward seeing you in Salt Lake City. Sincerely, Dae Hee Youn Student Forum Chair, ICASSP2001 Professor, Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea. 120-749 Visiting Professor, Dept. of Electrical Engineering University of Utah Salt Lake City, UT, 84112
