ICME2001, August 22-25, 2001, Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan http://www.giti.waseda.ac.jp/ICME2001/ International Conference on Multimedia & Expo (ICME) is a major annual international conference organized with the objective of bringing together researchers, developers and practitioners from academia and industry working in all areas in multimedia. ICME serves as a forum for the dissemination of state-of-the-art research, development, and implementations of multimedia systems, technologies and applications. For the first time, ICME2000 in New York City took place in joint collaboration with four IEEE societies: the Circuits and Systems Society, the Computer Society, the Signal Processing Society, and the Communications Society, so as to unify all IEEE as well as non-IEEE multimedia related activities under the common umbrella of ICME. ICME2001 in Tokyo is the first ICME in the 21st century and the 2nd ICME co-organized by the four IEEE societies. Co-sponsored by the Computer Society, the Circuits and Systems Society, the Signal Processing Society, and the Communications Society of IEEE Authors should submit a four-page manuscript in double-column format including authors' names, affiliations and a short abstract. Only electronic submission (in pdf or postscript format) will be accepted. Electronic submission procedure can be found in the ICME2001's webpage indicated below. Topics covered include but are not limited to the following: Signal processing for media integration Components and technologies for multimedia systems Human-machine interface and interaction Multimedia databases and file systems Multimedia communication and networking System integration Audio and/or video processing Virtual reality and computer graphics Integration of art and technologies Applications Standards (e.g., MPEG) and related issues Once accepted, the authors will be asked to prepare a four-page camera ready paper to appear in the conference proceedings and CD-ROM proceedings. Proposals for special sessions and half- or full-day tutorial courses may be submitted to the respective chairs before the respective deadlines.
