Call for Papers Special Issue of IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering on Underwater Image and Video Processing. Co-Editors: David Lane Heriot-Watt University Hanumant Singh Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Xiaoou Tang Chinese University of Hong Kong Manuel Trucco Heriot-Watt University The January 2003 issue of the IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering will be devoted in part to the topic of Underwater Image and Video Processing. A particular focus will be the advanced algorithms and technologies associated with image processing, analysis and computer vision for applications specific to the underwater environment. Specific topics of interest include, but are not limited to: - Image registration, photomosaicking, and three dimensional image reconstruction - Visually based navigation, and techniques for visual servoing - Feature and model based tracking - Multisensor fusion of optical with other imaging modalities - Image classification - Image segmentation - Texture analysis - Object recognition - Image and video compression - Image enhancement and restoration - Practical applications in marine environments associatd with scientific, military and industrial research This special issue is mostly targeted towards theoretical and algorithmic advances in underwater imaging using real problems and data. Papers that are illustrated solely with simulated or land-based data will be considered for the special issue only if they present truly outstanding results. Papers should be submitted by April 15, 2002 to: Hanumant Singh Blake 206, MS#7, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Woods Hole, MA - 02543 USA
