****************** 6th Open German - Russian Workshop ***************** on PATTERN RECOGNITION and IMAGE UNDERSTANDING: (OGRW-6-2003) August 25-30, 2003, Katun village, Russian Federation Dear Colleagues, Please find enclosed "Call for Participation" for the 6-th Open German - Russian Workshop "Pattern Recognition and Image Understanding" (OGRW-6-2003). The Workshop will be held August 25 - 30, 2003 in Katun village (near Gorno-Altaisk), Altai resort area, at the south of Western Siberia. The recommended date of arrival is August 24, 2003. The recommended date of departure is August 31, 2003. IMPORTANT DETAILS 1. The OGRW-6-2003 is sponsored by the International Association for Pattern Recognition. 2. The scientific program will include contributed as well as invited papers. The program of the workshop will also include a meeting of the Technical Committee No. 16 of the International Association for Pattern Recognition "Algebraic and Discrete Mathematics Techniques in Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis". Two versions of OGRW-6-2003 Proceedings will be published: 1) extended Abstracts will be distributed at the workshop; 2) OGRW-6-2003 Proceedings - full papers (in English) - special issue of the international journal "Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis" (MAIK "Nauka (International Academic Publishing Concern "Science")/Interperiodica" Publishing, Moscow) - will be prepared and published after the workshop (PRIA, 2004, V. 14, No. 2). 5. ALTAI REPUBLIC Altai is located approximately 3000 km to the East from Moscow, between 50 and 54 degrees of northern latitude and 82 and 90 degrees of eastern longitude. Altai is one of the most wonderful places on Earth. This mountain country contains the ranges of mountains that form the watershed of Ob, Irtish and Enisei rivers. People use to call Altai the Siberian Switzerland (rather weak and clumsy parallel). Altai is unique. Nowhere else you could find such quaint mountains, rapid rivers and dense forests. More than 3500 lakes are in Altai, each like is a pearl. 6. There will be organized charter flights from Novosibirsk to Gorno-Altaisk (August 24, 2003) and back (August 31, 2003). Novosibirsk is connected by direct flights ("Siberia" flight company) with Beijing, Frankfurt, Hanover, Seoul, Tel Aviv. The participants could arrive to Novosibirsk before August 24, 2003, and visit Novosibirsk Academic City, and also to spend several days in Novosibirsk Academic City after August 31, 2003. The visits to the institutes of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences will be organized. 7. The Workshop is open to all scientists and professionals working and/or interested in one of the. The number of participants will be limited to 100. 8. The participants are suggested to use the package covering hotel accommodation, meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), transfer Novosibirsk - Katun (charter flight + bus) (24.08.2003) and Katun-Novosibirsk (bus + charter flight) (31.08.2003), 3 excursions. 9.
