======================================== First Call for Papers - SCIP @ IFSA2003 http://fuzzy.rug.ac.be/SCIP/ ======================================== We kindly invite you to participate in the special session on "SOFT COMPUTING IN IMAGE PROCESSING" to be organised at the IFSA 2003 Conference. IFSA 2003, the International Fuzzy Systems Association World Congress, is held in Istanbul (Turkey), from June 29 until July 2. Soft Computing techniques involve different methodologies, e.g. fuzzy set theory, neural networks, genetic algorithms and rough set theory. The capabiblity of these techniques to incorporate imprecision and incomplete information, and to model very complex systems makes them a usefull tool in many scientific areas. Needless to say, image processing is one of these areas. The aim of this session is to provide an international forum for presentation of recent results and advances regarding soft computing techniques in image processing. It is a unique opportunity for researchers in this area to meet and to exchange ideas. It is also a way to establish and/or intensify international cooperation. Topics include but are not limited to: - noise reduction in images - edge detection and segmentation - feature extraction - image enhancement - image compression - similarity between images - image analysis - ... Authors are invited to submit papers describing theoretical or practical results. Authors are requested to submit a 4-page paper by January 30. Please respect the following guidelines: - Submit your paper as a postscript, tex, or pdf file - Papers should include title, authors' name(s), affiliation(s) and keywords. Please indicate the corresponding authors with their e-mail addresses - Papers should be of size A4 - The font should be Times Roman, 10 points, double column We summarize the most important dates: - Submission deadline: January 30, 2003 - Notification of acceptance: February 28, 2003 - Camera ready papers: May 9, 2003 **Important** : if you are interested in submitting a paper for the session on "Soft Computing in Image Processing", please let us know with a short email and a short abstract (this is important for the conference organizers!). If you already have submitted a paper for the IFSA 2003 Conference and if you think it fits in the scope of this session, you can let us know this as well. It is possible to have your paper moved into the session! Final note: the organisation of this special session is an initiative of the SCIP Working Group. The aim of this working group is to establish and intensify international cooperation between researchers that are active in the area of soft computing in image processing.
