CALL FOR PAPERS IEEE SIGNAL PROCESSING MAGAZINE Special Issue on Color Image Processing In the last decades, we have seen an enormous growth in color and color-based applications throughout the signal, image and video processing communities. Color is no longer interpreted as just an extension of gray scale but is now seen as a key element for a number of image and video processing systems. In particular, color has played a central role in scanning & printing applications, where color management algorithms have served as the foundation to transport documents from one system to another. Color also plays an increasingly important role in pattern recognition & digital multimedia, where color based-features and color segmentation has proven pertinent in detecting and classifying objects in satellite & general purpose imagery. In particular, the fusion of color and edge based features has improved the performance of image segmentation and object recognition. Color has also become a major component in document archiving and retrieval applications. There are many web-based applications where accurate color communication is often critical for retailers in advertising their products and services. The objective of this special issue is to review recent research, development and technology critical to color image processing algorithms and applications. The goal is to compile their essence into a single publication readily assessable to the signal processing community. Tutorial papers are solicited from the following non-exhaustive list of topics. Other related work is also welcome for publication. Suggested Topics: * Color imaging technologies: capture, reproduction and display. * Color characterization/calibration for input, output and processing. * Color management for handling, display and printing of images and documents. * Applications of color processing, e.g., scanners, displays, digital cameras, and consumer software. * Color image segmentation. * Color image compression * Use of color for digital multimedia applications: image/video indexing and retrieval * Color halftoning. * Color appearance and perception models, color metrics. * Consumer applications.
