First Announcement and Call for Contributions Workshop on Computer Vision System Control Architectures VSCA 2003 March 31, 2003 Convention Center Graz, Austria ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - In conjunction with ICVS 2003 http://dib.joanneum.at/icvs03 - Sponsored by ECVision http://www.ecvision.info and CAVIAR project: http://www.dai.ed.ac.uk/homes/rbf/CAVIAR/ - Local organisation by Edinburgh University : http://www.dai.ed.ac.uk/homes/rbf *** note that the www.dai.ed.ac.uk domain will be down for a few *** more days due to a large fire in Edinburgh --- SCOPE ------------------------------------------------------------------ Modern high-level vision algorithms must take account of greater options than in the past: alternative algorithms alternative hypotheses larger datasets temporal activity sequences coarse and fine grained processes real-time interpretation systems All these lead to vision systems with embedded specialized process controllers. This workshop will bring together recent research into the issues involving the control of the system's processing (in contrast to what the system is processing). This means research that includes: model-driven control architectures data-driven control architectures opportunistic control architectures blackboard systems reactive and behavior-based systems The goal of the workshop is to invigorate a research area that has not had much exposure in the past decade, but which is likely to become important in the next decade as the research community shifts to problems in data stream interpretation. --- DATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ Deadline for abstract submission: January 15, 2003 Notification of acceptance March 3, 2003 Deadline for abstract March 15, 2003 Workshop March 31, 2003 --- ORGANISING COMMITTEE --------------------------------------------------- Bob Fisher Univ. of Edinburgh (Chair) James Crowley INRIA Jose Santos-Victor Instituto Tecnico Superior --- PROGRAMME COMMITTEE --------------------------------------------------- Ulrike Ahlrichs Univ of Erlangen Majid Mirmehdi Univ of Bristol Paul Rosin Cardiff Univ Chandra Shekhar Univ of Maryland Monnique Thonnat INRIA Toyohide Watanabe Nagoya Univ --- LOCATION --------------------------------------------------------------- - VSCA'03 will be held at the Convention Center Graz (http://www.grazercongress.co.at), Austria. - The workshop is being held in conjunction with ICVS 2003 (http://dib.joanneum.at/icvs03). - Graz will be Cultural Capital of Europe in 2003 (http://www.graz03.at). - Graz old city center (http://www.graztourism.at) has been recently entered the UNESCO heritage list. --- PROGRAMME -------------------------------------------------------------- INVITED TALKS: TBD REVIEWED PRESENTATIONS: 10 approximate 1/2 hour talks The provisional set of paper titles (with associated abstracts) will be available (also as PDF file) on March 3, 2003. --- AUTHOR INFORMATION ----------------------------------------------------- This is intended to be an informal, work-in-progress workshop. Therefore, we will only require submission of a 2-3 page extended abstract for review. Those authors selected for presentation at the workshop will be required to submit a revised abstract for the final "proceedings", which will be the full set of abstracts. SUBMISSION: Please submit your abstract as a PDF email attachment to rbf @ inf.ed.ac.uk The abstract should be anonymous during the review process, so please remove any indications of name and affiliation. In the email body, please include the following information: * Title * Authors (first and last names) * Affiliation of authors (institute, address) * Corresponding author (including his/her address, email, phone, fax) Abstracts will be considered for review that have also been submitted to the main ICVS conference. Double submission must be indicated by authors. --- For questions CONTACT -------------------------------------------------- Dr. Robert B.
