Signal Processing: Image Communication

Call for Papers: Special Issue on European Projects on Visual
Representation Systems and Services

The fast evolution of digital technology in the last years has deeply
transformed the way by which information, notably multimedia information,
natural and synthetic, is generated, processed, represented, transmitted
and stored. In these past years, hundreds of European projects have been
running in the area of multimedia representation fulfilling different
types of requirements and services. These projects have been targeting
various types of multimedia technologies, systems, services, users, etc.
all contributing to the development of European as well as world
knowledge in this area.

Although much has been published on the results of (past and running)
European projects, this Special Issue of IMAGE COMMUNICATION on European
Projects in Visual Representation Systems and Services intends to gather
high quality technical contributions on visual representation
technologies, systems, services and trials that have been (are being)
developed in the context of projects funded by European Commission
programmes. Papers on tools, systems and services fulfilling this
requirement are solicited on, but not restricted to, the following areas:

    · Analysis and understanding
· Coding
· Modeling
· Synthetic and natural hybrid composition
· Indexing and retrieval
· Adaptation
· Authentication and protection
· Services, requirements and functionalities
· Architectures
· Field trials
· Standards

All manuscripts should be submitted before 30 September 2004 to one of
