IA 2004 Compiegne UTC November 4-5 2004 www. utc.fr/via2004/ ________________________________________________________________________________________ _ We have the pleasure to inform you that the first workshop on Virtual Reality for Industrial Applications, VIA 2004, will be held at at the University of Technology Compiegne on November 4, 5, 2004.This workshop is related to the international conference Virtual Concept. The goal of this workshop is to discuss the role of perceptive feedback in industrial virtual reality applications. The successful use of virtual reality tools in several specific fields of application suggests their generalization for industrial purposes. But at the opposite, these new systems seem to be difficult to use for the average user and some experiments suggest that virtual reality applications need believability to be interpreted correctly. Participants will contribute with positions or scenarios that clarify some aspects of end user problems when interacting in virtual worlds, focused on these points: ( User centred product design with virtual reality ( Belivability of virtual worlds ( Haptic and tactile feedback ( Virtual objects manipulation ( Physical models in virtual reality applications ( Cooperation or collaboration in virtual worlds The number of participants will be reduced in order to get working groups, focused on discussions and exchanges including presentations and posters. Some demonstrations on research projects will be proposed: all the participants will be invited to bring their work in progress if available. Summaries of the presentations will be provided to all the participants. The program of the scientific workshop of VIA 2004 is already online. You can discover it on our website: http://www.utc.fr/via2004/ Instructions will be provided to participants in order to prepare demos and labs presentations. The accent will be put on common projects and links between different communities.
