------------------------------------------------------------------------- Call for papers ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2007 IEEE International Workshop on Machine Learning for Signal Processing (Formerly the IEEE Workshop on Neural Networks for Signal Processing) August 27 - 29, 2007, Thessaloniki, Greece Deadlines: Paper Submission March 30, 2007 Data analysis competition March 30, 2007 ------------------------------------------- http://mlsp2007.conwiz.dk/ --- The seventeenth of a series of IEEE workshops on Machine Learning for Signal Processing will be held in Thessaloniki, Greece. The ancient city of Thessaloniki founded in 316 BC was named after the half-sister of the Macedonian king Alexander the Great. It is located in a privileged geographical position on the shores of the Aegean Sea. Once the second largest city of the Late Roman Empire, Thessaloniki is a living museum of Byzantine art. Today the city is famous for its nightlife hosting three major institutes of higher education including Greece's largest university. Every September Thessaloniki holds the International Trade Fair followed by the popular International Film festival, while numerous other activities happen throughout the year. The workshop, formerly known as Neural Networks for Signal Processing (NNSP), is sponsored by the IEEE Signal Processing society (SPS) and organized by the MLSP technical committee of the IEEE SPS. The name of the NNSP technical committee, and hence the workshop, was changed to Machine Learning for Signal Processing in September 2003 to better reflect the areas represented by the technical committee. The workshop will feature keynote addresses, technical presentations, special sessions and tutorials, all of which will be included in the registration. Papers are solicited for, but not limited to, the following areas: Learning Theory and Modeling; Bayesian Learning and Modeling; Sequential Learning; Sequential Decision Methods; Information-theoretic Learning; Neural Network Learning; Graphical and Kernel Models; Bounds on performance; Blind Signal Separation and Independent Component Analysis; Signal Detection; Pattern Recognition and Classification, Bioinformatics Applications; Biomedical Applications and Neural Engineering; Intelligent Multimedia and Web Processing; Communications Applications; Speech and Audio Processing Applications; Image and Video Processing Applications. A data analysis and signal processing competition is being organized in conjunction with the workshop. This year's competition is the third consecutive event and previous competitions resulted in novel and superbly performing approaches to challenging problems in the fields of ICA and multichannel signal denoising, helping progress the mission of the MLSP community. The goal of the competition is to advance the current state-of-the-art in various signal processing domains in both theoretical and practical aspects. The problems are selected to reflect the current trends to evaluate existing approaches on common benchmarks as well as areas where crucial developments are thought to be necessary. Details of the competition will be announced on the workshop website. Selected papers from MLSP 2007 will be considered for a special issue of The Journal of VLSI Signal Processing Systems for Signal, Image, and Video Technology to appear in 2008. The winners of the data analysis and signal processing competition will also be invited to contribute to the special issue. MLSP'2007 webpage: http://mlsp2007.conwiz.dk/ Paper Submission Procedure Prospective authors are invited to submit a double column paper of up to six pages using the electronic submission procedure described at the workshop homepage. Accepted papers will be published in a bound volume by the IEEE after the workshop and a CDROM volume will be distributed at the workshop. ------------------------- MLSP'2007 webpage: http://mlsp2007.conwiz.dk/ MLSP 2007 ORGANIZING COMMITTEE: General Chair Konstantinos I.
