Special Session : Tracking, Recognition, and Annotation in Sports (TRASPO) ------------------------ ISSPA 2007 International Symposium on Signal Processing and its Application 12 - 15 February 2007, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) Aims, Scope and Topics Video-based analysis of sports events offers many challenges in terms of the familiar problems of detection, recognition, annotation, search, and understanding. Today, such analysis is done by coaches and other support staff; but state-of-the-art computer vision, pattern recognition, and machine learning techniques can be used and improved in order to carry out more of these tasks. Sports videos offer a restricted and defined challenge: there are only a fixed number of players; players are often restricted to one side of the field; and the videos look similar wherever the game was played. Yet, within these conditions there exist a wealth of challenges. Typical tracking challenges include tracking individual players on the sports pitch, tracking the ball, and tracking the dynamic pose of a player. Typical detection challenges include detecting serves, goals, and events that contravene the rules. Typical recognition challenges include recognising poses, recognising formations, and recognising tactical sequences. In the mean time, the challenges of annotation, indexing, and search build on the methodologies of content-based-retrieval to exploit huge archival databases. Topics include: * Tracking of Athletes/Players * Ball Tracking * Motion Data Processing and Analysis * Team Activity Detection * Individual Activity Detection, Recognition and Analysis * Annotation, Indexing, and Search applications Important Dates * Full paper submission: October 31, 2006 * Notification of acceptance: December 10, 2006 * Final paper submission: December 20, 2006 Please notify the organizer, Dr A I Shihab - a.i.shihab@computer.org - of your intention to submit at the first instance.
