=================================================== 5th IAPR Int.l Summer School for Advanced Studies on Biometrics for Secure Authentication: NEW TECHNOLOGIES FOR SECURITY AND PRIVACY Alghero, Italy - June, 9-13 2008 Endorsed by: IAPR TC-14 =================================================== Contact: tista@uniss.it IMPORTANT DATES: * APPLICATION DEADLINE: February 15th 2008 download application form: http://biometrics.uniss.it * Notification of acceptance: March 1st 2008 SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS A filled application form has to be sent to the school together with curriculum vitae, via e-mail to: Massimo Tistarelli - tista@uniss.it SCOPE: In the last decade, several recognition and authentication systems based on biometric measurements have been proposed. Many different biological features have been utilized: fingerprint, face and facial features, retinal scan, iris pattern, hand geometry, dna trace, gait, and others. Algorithms and sensors have been developed to acquire and process all different biometric data sources. The recent introduction of biometric data in electronic documents, such as passports, has increased the relevance of the secure storage and processing of personal biometric data. What are the most up-to-date core technologies developed in the field? What are the most relevant issues in biometric standardization? What are the real and ultimate limitations of biometric recognition/authentication systems? How to develop/integrate a biometric recognition system? This school follows the successful International Summer Schools on Biometrics held since 2003, but with a different target. In this fifth edition, the courses will mainly focus on new and emerging issues in biometrics: * How to enforce security and privacy in the biometric system (from template to recognition); * The design and application of new and emerging biometric technologies; * Standardization issues and techniques for evaluation and assessment of biometric applications. The courses will provide a clear and in-depth picture on the state-of-the-art in biometric verification/identification technology, both under the theoretical and scientific point of view as well as in diverse application domains. The talks will be delivered by 18 out of the best internationally reputed experts, both from academia and industry, actively working in several fields related to biometric technologies. Emphasis will be given to evaluation, standardization and to define the maturity of technology for the deployment of biometrics in a wide range of applications. PARTICIPANT APPLICATION The school will be open to about 40 highly qualified, motivated and pre-selected applicants. Phd students, post-docs, young researchers or industrial professionals in the field are encouraged to apply. The lectures will be given by several outstanding experts in the field, from both academia and industry. The expected school fees will be in the order of 1,200 - for Phd students and 1,700 for others (subject to change). The fees will include full board accommodation, all courses and handling material. Phd students and Post docs may submit a short paper (6 pages maximum, original and unpublished work) on their recent research activity. A scholarship will be awarded to the best paper presented by the students. The paper may be published, together with the lecturer's contributions, in an edited book in the Springer Verlag Lecture Notes Series in Computer Science. Send a filled application form (download from http://biometrics.uniss.it ) together with a short curriculum vitae to: Massimo Tistarelli - tista@uniss.it Advance pre-registration is strictly required by February 15th 2008 SCHOOL COMMITTEE School director: Massimo Tistarelli Computer Vision Laboratory University of Sassari, Italy Co-directors: Josef Bigun Department of Computer Science Halmstad University, Sweden Enrico Grosso Computer Vision Laboratory University of Sassari, Italy Anil K.
