CALL FOR PAPERS -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Second ACM/IEEE International Conference on Distributed Smart Cameras (ICDSC-08) http://www.ICDSC.org/ September 7-11, 2008 Stanford University, USA -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scope: After the successful first meeting in Vienna, the second ACM/IEEE International Conference on Distributed Smart Cameras will be held September 7-11, 2008 at Stanford University. Distributed smart cameras combine techniques from computer vision, distributed processing, sensor networks, and embedded computing. Technological advances in the design of sensors and processors have facilitated the development of efficient embedded vision-based techniques. Design of scalable, network-based applications based on high-bandwidth data such as images requires a change of paradigm in the processing methodologies, thus creating opportunities for designing distributed and collaborative vision-based techniques. As a result, novel smart environment applications can be enabled that are interpretive, context aware, and user centric in nature. The conference aims to provide an opportunity for researchers investigating the areas of smart camera architectures, algorithm design, embedded vision-based processing, and smart environments to exchange their most recent results. Offering insight into the potentials and challenges of distributed vision networks and an outlook of research opportunities ahead are also the objectives of the conference. Presentations accompanied by demonstrations and contributions based on industrial applications are also of interest. Topics: Papers are solicited in the following areas: Smart Camera Architectures: - Embedded vision programming methodologies and libraries - Audio and vision fusion architectures and techniques Algorithms: - Collaborative feature extraction, data fusion, and decision fusion - Distributed reasoning and event interpretation - Real-time operation and robust design methods - Calibration of distributed smart cameras Vision Networks: - Architectures and protocols for smart camera networks - Wireless and mobile image sensor networks Applications: - Vision-based and multi-modal smart environments - Multi-view vision for Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) - 3D scene analysis, surveillance and tracking applications - Multimedia, gaming, and virtual reality applications - Performance evaluation of distributed smart cameras Paper Submission: Full-length papers of 8 to 10 pages in length reporting on original research are solicited. Detailed submission instructions are available at http://www.ICDSC.org. Submitted papers will be peer-reviewed and accepted papers will be assigned to lecture, poster, or demo sessions based on content. Tutorials: Proposals for half-day tutorials on related topics are solicited. Instructions will be available at http://www.ICDSC.org. Workshops: Proposals for workshops on related topics are solicited. Instructions will be available at http://www.ICDSC.org. PhD Forum: Participation from PhD students are solicited. The PhD forum will be organized in the form of a brainstorming session on potential research topics with experts in the related fields. More information and submission instructions will be available at http://www.ICDSC.org. ========================================================================== Important Dates: Workshop proposal deadline: March 10, 2008 Technical paper registration deadline: April 21, 2008 Technical paper submission deadline: April 28, 2008 Tutorial proposal deadline: April 28, 2008 PhD forum submission deadline: May 8, 2008 Notification of acceptance: June 6, 2008 Camera-ready submission deadline: June 23, 2008 Tutorials: September 7, 2008 Conference: September 7-11, 2008 ========================================================================== Steering Committee: - Bernhard Rinner (Klagenfurt University, Austria) - Wayne Wolf (Georgia Tech., USA) General Chairs: - Hamid Aghajan (Stanford University, USA) - Tsuhan Chen (Carnegie-Mellon University, USA) Program Chairs: - Richard Kleihorst (NXP Research, The Netherlands) - Richard Radke (Rensselaer Polytechnic Inst., USA) Local Arrangements Chair: - Mathias Kolsch (Naval Postgraduate School, USA) Workshops Chair: - Andrea Cavallaro (Queen Mary, Univ. of London, UK) PhD Forum Chair: - Andrea Prati (Univ. di Modena e Reggio Emilia, Italy) Publication Chair: - Johnny Park (Purdue University, USA) Demos Chair: - Maurice Chu (PARC, USA) Finance Chair: - Mathias Kolsch (Naval Postgraduate School, USA) Publicity Chairs: - Johnny Park (Purdue University, USA) - Andrea Prati (Univ. di Modena e Reggio Emilia, Italy)
