Call for Papers You are kindly invited to participate in the Special Session on Soft Computing in Image Processing: Recent Advances to be organised at the FLINS 2008 Conference. FLINS 2008, the 8th International FLINS Conference on Computational Intelligence in Decision and Control, will be held in Madrid (Spain), from September 21 until 24, 2008. The SCIP Working Group also organised successful sessions at FLINS 2004 (Blankenberghe, Belgium) and FLINS 2006 (Genova, Italy). The application of soft computing techniques in image processing problems has led to numerous technological advances, both from the theoretical and practical point of view. The deepening of the synergistic cooperation between these two fields will certainly produce even more groundbreaking methods able to solve complex real world problems. The aim of this session is to provide an international forum for presentation of recent results and advances regarding soft computing techniques in image processing. It is a unique opportunity for researchers in this area to meet and to exchange ideas. It is also a way to establish and/or intensify international cooperation. Topics include but are not limited to: * noise reduction in images * edge detection and segmentation * feature extraction * image/motion enhancement * image/motion compression * similarity between images/motion * image/motion analysis * medical imaging * visualization * ... Submission of papers. Reseachers are invited to submit a paper (4-6 pages) by January 15, 2008 . All accepted papers (oral and poster presentations), will be published as a book by World Scientific. Final papers should be prepared according to the publisher's instructions (please select the trim size: 9" x 6"). Papers that are not prepared according to these guidelines will not be published. Papers can be submitted by emailing them to the session organisers (mike.nachtegael@ugent.be, tom.melange@ugent.be, etienne.kerre@ugent.be). You can also submit your paper directly through the conference channels (vist the FLINS 2008 website, select "Paper Submission" and proceed to the "Automatic Submission Program"), but a copy to the session organisers is recommended in any case for a smooth organisation of the review process. Important dates * Submission deadline: January 15, 2008 * Notification of acceptance: March 15, 2008 * Final paper submission and registration: April 15, 2008 Final note: if you are interested in submitting a paper for the session on "Soft Computing in Image Processing", please let us know with a short email. This will facilitate the planning of the session(s) and the conference.
