Dear members of the ACM SIGMM community:

The creation of a quarterly electronic newsletter for the ACM SIG
Multimedia community was proposed at the ACM Multimedia in Augsburg
in 2007. The first and second editions are available at
http://vefur.simula.no/sigmm-enews/

The newsletter is meant to strengthen the dissemination of research,
to inform the community about ongoing research and as a medium for
disseminating other information that is important to the community.
The newsletter is distributed electronically through the mailing list
sigmm at pi4.informatik.uni-mannheim.de. Newsletter are also made
available in HTML and PDF formats on the web. You can access the
archive of the ACM SIG Multimedia Newsletter at
http://www.sigmm.org/sigmmpublications


We await your contributions for the third issue by 15 September 2008.

Contributions that we solicit in particular are PhD thesis abstracts,
news about SIG MM members who have been granted awards and conference/
workshop reports from SIGMM-related events. We are also interested in
including information about freely available code and data sets that
could be of interest to the community, calls-for-paper for SIG MM-
related events, opportunities for awards and open researcher positions.
