------------------------------------------------------------ IET VIE'08 workshop on Scalable coded media beyond compression http://vie08.qmul.net/vie_ws/visnet.htm 29th July 2008, Xi'an, China Submission deadline: 31st March 2008 ------------------------------ CALL FOR PAPERS AND DEMOS Last few years have seen the emergence of different solutions for achieving high-quality compression of images/video resulting in scalable bit streams. Scalable coding has now become an integral part of International standardisation efforts and has lead to successful standardisation of JPEG2000 for image coding and the scalable extension of the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 for video coding. With the availability of these scalable coding technologies, it is vital to investigate the effect and influence of scalable coded visual content on the existing compression domain visual content analysis, robust streaming, search and retrieval from distributed databases and digital rights management applications. Future commercialisation of scalable coding technology mainly depends on the success of its integration with the whole multimedia usage experience. This workshop aims to present the application challenges of recently established scalable visual content coding, new techniques of usage of scalable coded visual content and to address future applications based on scalable coded content. This event will create an important networking forum in which academic and industrial participants can discuss the future of scalable coded visual content technologies and applications. TOPICS - Content adaptation and summarisation using scalable bit-streams - Robust streaming, error resilience and error concealment - Compressed domain analysis - Content based retrieval of scalable content - Digital rights management - Complexity optimisation and new tools for achieving scalability KEYNOTE TALK - Prof Stefano Tubaro, Politecnico di Milano, Italy: "Robust Streaming, Error Resilience and Error Concealment" SUBMISSION Accepted papers will be published in the VIE 2008 Conference Proceedings. Extended versions of papers will be invited for review and consideration for publication in Special Issues of the IET Image Processing, IET Computer Vision and the EURASIP journal on Image and Video Processing. "Author's Kit" is available from the conference website http://vie08.qmul.net/. Prospective authors are invited to submit papers using the on-line paper submission system at the conference website. To indicate submission to the workshop, on the submission site, after login, select the workshop instead of the conference main track. DEMOS Interested parties are invited to present posters and demos related to the workshop during the event. Contact workshop co-chairs for details.
