******************************************************************** CALL FOR PAPERS International Workshop on Human Computer Interaction 2009 (In conjunction with ICCV'2009) Kyoto, Japan, October 4, 2009 (http://staff.science.uva.nl/~nicu/HCI2009/) ******************************************************************** Human computer interaction (HCI) lies at the crossroads of many scientific areas including artificial intelligence, computer vision, face recognition, motion tracking, etc. In order for HCI systems to interact seamlessly with people, they will need to understand their environment through vision and auditory input. Moreover, HCI systems should learn how to adaptively respond depending on the situation. Recently, more efforts are paid towards human-centered computing approaches in general and ambient intelligence and sensor networks, social signals analysis, smart environments, in particular. In all these areas computer vision plays an essential part and we are going to cover the new developments in these research directions. The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers from the field of computer vision whose work is related to human computer interaction. We are soliciting original contributions that address a wide range of theoretical and application issues in human computer interaction including, but not limited to: • Ambient, multi-camera, and multi-modal HCI systems and methods • User behavior modeling • Use of context • Affective detection and recognition • Smart interfaces • Human motion tracking and gesture recognition • Dynamic learning of user preferences in interactive HCI • User-centric design, technology acceptance issues • Intention prediction, use of explicit and implicit feedback • Interaction between users • HCI in the context of social networks • Applications in smart environments • HCI issues in image/video retrieval • Input and interaction techniques • Perceptual user interfaces • Wearable and pervasive technologies in HCI Important dates ----------------- June 22, 2009: Submission of full paper July 27, 2009: Notification of acceptance August 10, 2007: Camera-ready full paper September 28, 2009: Workshop Workshop Chairs ----------------- Hamid Aghajan, Stanford University, USA Thomas Huang, Univ. of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA Nicu Sebe, University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands & University of Trento, Italy Caifeng Shan, Philips Research, The Netherlands Program Committee ---------------- Kiyo Aizawa, University of Tokyo, Japan Vassilis Athitsos, University of Texas at Arlington, USA Serge Belongie, University of California, San Diego, USA Maurice Chu, PARC, USA Ira Cohen, HP Research Labs, USA Jeffrey Cohn, University of Pittsburgh, USA James Crowley, INRIA Rhones Alpes, France Yun (Raymond) Fu, BBN Technologies, USA Daniel Gatica-Perez, IDIAP, Switzerland Shaogang Gong, Queen Mary University of London, UK Alejandro Jaimes, Telefonica, Spain Ashish Kapoor, Microsoft Research, USA Richard Kleihorst, VITO, Belgium Michael Lew, Leiden University, The Netherlands Frank Nack, University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands Ramakant Nevatia, University of Southern California, USA Anton Nijholt, University of Twente, The Netherlands Jean-Marc Odobez, IDIAP, Switzerland Maja Pantic, Imperial College, UK & University of Twente, The Netherlands Ioannis Patras, Queen Mary University of London, UK Vladimir Pavlovic, Rutgers University, USA Ronald Poppe, TU Delft, The Netherlands Albert Ali Salah, CWI, The Netherlands Rainer Stiefelhagen, University of Karlsruhe, Germany Qi Tian, Microsoft Asia, China Matthew Turk, University of California, Santa Barbara, USA Jordi Vitria, Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Spain Ming-Hsuan Yang, University of California, Merced, USA
