International Journal of Computer Vision Call for Papers Special Issue on Mobile Vision Guest Editors: Gang Hua, IBM Research T. J Watson Center, USA Yun Fu, State University of New York at Buffalo, USA Matthew Turk, University of California, Santa Barbara, USA Marc Pollefeys, ETH Zurich, Switzerland Zhengyou Zhang, Microsoft Research, Redmond, USA Topic Description: Cameras are becoming ubiquitous due to the proliferation of smart mobile devices. Most of these cameras are embedded in networked mobile computing devices with ever increasing computational power, providing infrastructure to develop smart environments that support a wide range of new functionality. Emerging applications of computer vision and pattern recognition have great potential for innovation in these areas. The focus of this special issue is on exploring the new opportunities and challenges of computer vision technologies in mobile and smart environments. This special issue provides another opportunity for researchers to identify critical problems and propose effective novel solutions in this emerging area. Computer vision is essential for providing rich interactive experiences to users in mobile and smart environments. In particular, visual recognition, 3D modeling, tracking, human computer interaction, interactive vision and visualization, and multimodal integration are some of the key technologies for progress in the area. Submissions in all areas of computer vision and pattern recognition in mobile and smart environment are welcome. Key areas include, but are not limited to: * Mobile mixed reality * Mobile and internet vision * Mobile video games * Mobile perceptual interfaces * Mobile computational photography * Mobile visual information retrieval * Mobile visual computing for social networks * Mobile and smart environment applications for the visually impaired * Soft-biometrics in mobile devices and smart environment * Emotion, gesture, expression analysis in mobile platform * Audio-visual personal identification in mobile devices * Mobile multiple-view analysis and 3D models * Mobile interactive image/video parsing/annotation/analysis * Multimodality/multimodal computer vision system in mobile platform * Mobile cloud visual computing * Other mobile related visual computing applications Important Dates: * Submissions due: 09/30/2010 extended to 10/15/2010 * First review results: 12/15/2010 * Revision due: 01/30/2011 * Second review results: 03/15/2011 * Final manuscript due: 04/30/2011 * Planned publication date: 08/2011 (subject to change according to review process and journal publication schedule) Paper submission and review: Papers should be well aligned with the theme of the special issue and must be submitted online through the IJCV manuscript submission site at http://www.editorialmanager.com/visi, with a note/tag designating the manuscript for this special issue.
