Outstanding papers will be invited for publication in a special issue of International Journal of Multimedia Tools and Applications. ================================================================================================= CALL FOR PAPERS We are witnessing an explosive proliferation of digital videos and images from a variety of sources such as the World Wide Web. Billions of images and videos are now freely available online (e.g. from video/image-sharing sites YouTube and Flickr), which constitute a dense sampling of the visual world. Such huge volumes of multimedia data pose many critical challenges for large-scale multimedia mining applications such as semantic category discovery, user behavior analysis, and trend (e.g., hot topic) prediction. Existing multimedia mining technology is still in its premature stage and very often cannot meet the requirements of real life users such as real-time monitoring or retrieval of large-scale multimedia collections. The increasing demand for visual content analysis and retrieval of large-scale visual data has attracted extension research efforts in the multimedia community. To meet these challenges, this workshop is soliciting research papers that investigate novel theories, algorithms, or applications for large-scale multimedia mining. It aims to provide a forum for researchers to exchange ideas and demonstrate the-state-of-the-art research outputs in this emerging field, as well as to set up a platform for the industry to acquire and comment to the recent research developments. Innovative works with solid experimental validations over realistic large-scale data sets are particularly welcome. This workshop will be held in conjunction with the 4th International Conference on Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering (MUE 2010) at San Diego, California, USA from June 28-30, 2010. Outstanding accepted papers, with further revisions and extensions, will be published in a special issue of International Journal of Multimedia Tools and Applications. Topics of interest include but are not limited to: o Theories for large scale multimedia data mining o Machine learning methods (e.g., online/semi-supervised learning) for large-scale applications o Efficient and scalable technologies for multimedia storage o High performance algorithms for distributed multimedia data processing o Semantic content analysis and retrieval of large scale multimedia collections o Automatic summarization of large-scale multimedia data o Social context based multimedia mining o Effective feature extraction for multimedia o Multimedia advertising and recommendation o Effective user interface design for multimedia data browsing o Privacy and security issues in large-scale multimedia applications IMPORTANT DATES Full Paper Due: February 21, 2010 Notification of Acceptance: March 10, 2010 Final Camera-Ready Due: March 20, 2010 Workshop Date: June 28-30, 2010 PAPER SUBMISSION Paper submissions for this workshop should follow the submission format and guidelines for regular MUE papers. Guidelines for paper submission to MUE 2010 can be found at http://www.ftrg.org/mue2010/submission.html Submitted papers will undergo a peer review process. All accepted papers will be included in the conference proceedings published by IEEE Press (IEEE eXpress Conference Publishing Group). Outstanding papers will be invited for extension and publication in a special issue of International Journal of Multimedia Tools and Applications.
