IEEE Signal Processing Society Summer School on "3D and High Definition/High Contrast Video Processing Systems" National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan 4-8 July 2011 WEB:http://s3p3dvideo.ee.nthu.edu.tw Email:slcho@larc.ee.nthu.edu.tw APPLICATION DEADLINE: 3 June 2011 http://s3p3dvideo.ee.nthu.edu.tw MOTIVATIONS AND DESCRIPTION The past decade has witnessed how visual signals enrich people's lives through new electronics devices and advanced multimedia applications such as three-dimensional (3D) video, high definition (HD) video, or 3D virtual reality. The key to push the progress of those applications are cutting-edge video signal processing and electronic technologies. In the same time, these technologies also face many challenges as heading towards new systems, new displays, and new devices. The first IEEE Signal Processing Summer School aims to provide both an objective and clear overview and an in-depth analysis of the state-of-the-art research on "3D and High Definition/High Contrast Video Processing Systems." The courses will be delivered by distinguished experts in the field, from both academia and industry. The school would like to provide graduate students, early stage researchers and practitioners a platform to interact with international and local researchers on state-of-the-art researches. The school would like to provide a stimulating opportunity for students and to raise their interest in this research area. With more than nine expert lecturers from Japan, Korea, Mainland China, Singapore, Taiwan, and USA, the summer school will cover the following main topics: (i) 3D Video Signal Processing. (ii) 3D Modeling and Display. (iii) Modeling and Design Methodologies for Video Processing Systems. (iv) 3D and High Definition/High Contrast Video System Realization. LIST OF SPEAKERS (i) 3D Video Signal Processing Dr. Anthony Vetro, Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories, USA Prof. Ming-Ting Sun, University of Washington, USA Prof. Jianfei Cai, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (ii) 3D Modeling and Display Dr. Paul Debevec, University of Southern California, USA Dr. Zhengguo Li, I2R, A-STAR, Singapore (iii) Modeling and Design Methodologies for Multi-dimensional Video Systems Prof. Shuvra Bhattacharyya, Univ. of Maryland, USA Prof. Soonhoi Ha, Seoul National University, Korea (iv) High definition/High contrast video system realization. Prof. Satoshi Goto, Waseda University, Japan Prof. Juin-In Guo, National Chung Cheng University, Taiwan Mr. Jizheng Xu, Microsoft Research Asia, Beijing, China APPLICATION The school will be open to graduate students, Ph.D. students, post-docs, young researchers, senior researchers and practitioners. Both academic and industrial professionals are encouraged to apply: http://s3p3dvideo.ee.nthu.edu.tw The expected school fee will be in the order of $50 (NT1500) for IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) student members*, $100 (NT3000) for non-SPS students, $100 (NT3000) for non-student SPS members*, and $200 (NT6000) for non-SPS non-students. The fee will include all lectures (during all five days), handling material, and lecture notes. The application at the summer school website should be done before 3 June 2011. * You must be an IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) Member at the time of registration to receive the IEEE SPS discount. Please visitwww.ieee.org/join for details. LOCATION The school will be hosted in National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan. National Tsing Hua University is widely recognized as the best incubator for future leaders in industries as well as academics. Hsinchu is a city in northern Taiwan with a popular nicknamed "The Windy City." The city is about 100 kilometer south of Taipei and is the base for high technology industry in Taiwan. Hsinchu Science and Technology Industrial Park is home to 360 high tech companies including TSMC, UMC, Mediatek, and AU Optronics. Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) is also located in Hsinchu. Hsinchu city is within one to two hours bus ride to famous Yangminshan National Park and National Palace Museum in Taipei. Yanmingshan National Park is a volcanic geographical park with sulfur hotspring resource. National Palace Museum is ranked as the number one sightseeing spot in Taiwan for foreign visitors. The Palace has the largest collection of priceless Chinese art treasure in the world with total 620,000 art objects. ACCOMMODATION RESERVATION Summer School participants can be hosted at the National Tsing Hua University Guest house I or the student DORM at very special rates.
