=================================================================================== Special issue of EURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing on Advances in 3D Surface Features, Matching and Retrieval =================================================================================== Call for papers Recent advances in 3D imaging systems provide point clouds and surface mesh models with wide application to such areas as machine vision, pattern recognition, virtual reality, computer graphics, computer aided geometric design and reverse engineering. Modelling packages also readily allow the construction of such surfaces ab initio. The technological developments in optics, electronics and mechanical control have led to increasing availability and quality of 3D imaging systems. The purpose of this special issue is to provide a forum for the latest research results in 3D surface features, 3D surface matching, and 3D surface retrieval. Papers are sought detailing original techniques and applications. We also welcome survey papers that describe the state-of-the-art. The latter should identify future research directions as well as supporting new researchers, engineers, and practitioners wishing to enter the field. The special issue will provide an opportunity for researchers to present the most recent developments and ideas in the field, with a special emphasis given to treatment of large amounts of surface data obtained with the latest 3D imaging systems. . 3D surface noise removal and other pre-processing . 3D local and global feature extraction . 3D surface representation . 3D surface comparison, matching and recognition . 3D surface retrieval . 3D surface registration . Metrics for 3D surface matching and retrieval . Standard datasets for comparative testing of algorithms . Applications of 3D surface features, matching, and retrieval for digital modeling, industrial inspection, etc. Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/asp/guidelines.html. Authors should follow the EURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing manuscript format described at the journal site http://www.hindawi.com/journals/asp/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/ according to the following timetable: =================================================================================== Submission deadline: 1 June 2011 First round review: 1 September 2011 Publication date: 1 December 2011 ===================================================================================== Lead guest editor Yonghuai Liu, Department of Computer Science, Aberystwyth University, Ceredigion SY23 3DB, UK; yyl@aber.ac.uk Guest editors Ralph R.
