*Scope*

The field of pattern recognition (PR) provides many successful examples
of systems that have converted from theoretical studies to practical
solutions in real-life applications. Since implementations of PR tend to
be special-purpose, PR is often realized as some kind of embedded system.
The spectrum of PR is vast. Recognized objects or events can be artificial
or natural. Deployed methods can be deductive or inductive, analytical or
statistical, programmed or hardwired, digital or analogue, supervised or
unsupervised, etc. User interaction with such systems can be optical,
phonetic, tactile, or based on other kinds of sensors. PR systems often
provide multiple modes of interaction and input data processing. IMPRESS
focuses on aspects of embedding, interaction and multimodality of PR. The
workshop provides a forum for presenting and discussing the state of the
art, ongoing research and development, innovative system features and
forward-looking ideas in the field. Apart from presenting and discussing
research papers, IMPRESS 2011 will also showcase selected implementations
of PR systems and prototype demos.

We are calling for papers presenting original research, new ideas, work in
progress, industrial experience, case studies or position statements in the
field of PR. In particular, we welcome submissions that address aspects of
interaction, multimodality or embedding.  Submissions are expected to deal
with PR systems in areas including, but not limited to the following topics:

*Submissions*

Authors are encouraged to submit an electronic version (preferably PDF)
of original unpublished work by March 20, 2011. Please navigate to the

for submission.

Full papers must neither be published nor currently revised elsewhere,
contain an abstract of up to 200 words, be written in English and not
exceed 5 double-column text pages. The IEEE format of final versions of
accepted papers is recommended.  All papers submitted to IMPRESS 2011
will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published in a proceedings
volume of the DEXA 2011 workshops. In case of questions or problems,
