Call for Papers Multimedia Tools and Applications Journal Special Issue on: "Internet Multimedia Computing & Service" We are seeing an explosive proliferation of multimedia content made available on the Internet. There is also an increasing need for its ubiquitous access, anytime and anywhere, and over a wide variety of receiving devices. However, current consumer expectations for multimedia technology and application still far exceed the achievement of today’s state of the art technologies. There is a technical gap between rich multimedia contents and multimedia computing technologies. Challenges on Internet multimedia computing and service include: 1) large-scale multimedia data; 2) dynamical upload and change of multimedia data on Internet; 3) correlation of multiple types of media information; 4) no standard format; 5) no enough manually labeled training data; 6) many duplicated and noisy data; 7) device/software/network compatibility; 8) personalization. To tackle these challenges, this special issue aims to seek innovative papers that exploit novel technologies and solutions on Internet multimedia computing and service. Topics ? Large-scale multimedia indexing, annotation, classification and search ? Distance metric learning for multimedia analysis ? Near-duplicate detection and copy detection ? Performance evaluation for large scale multimedia processing ? Cross media computing by integrating visual, aural and textual information ? Human-centered computing for internet multimedia analysis ? Adaptive multimedia accessing and browsing for mobile devices ? E-commerce based on collaborative recommendation and personalized preference ? Social networks for multimedia computing ?
