CALL FOR PAPERS ________________________________________ ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing, Communications and Applications (TOMCCAP) Special Issue on 20th Anniversary of ACM SIGMM Multimedia The premier ACM SIGMM International Conference on Multimedia (known as ACM Multimedia) is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. It all started in Anaheim, California, August 1-6, 1993, when the general chair, J.J. Garcia-Luna-Aceves, gathered multimedia-interested researchers together to discuss and present research on systems and networks that would process digital audio and digital video. From this moment, over the next 20 years, research in digital multimedia has gone viral and became an integral part of our IT life. At this point, it is hard to imagine not having Flickr, YouTube, Facebook, Skype, Sony Playstation, Microsoft Media Player, Netflix, InstaGram, Akamai Content Distribution Services, and other multimedia products as part of our lives. The beginnings of all these products can be traced to many scientific and engineering inventions presented at scientific and industrial events over the last 20 years. From the beginning, the ACM Multimedia Conference has been one of the most important scientific venues to disseminate knowledge in this space, and it played a crucial role in bringing out many solutions that we now see in multimedia products. This special issue of ACM TOMCCAP requests submission of manuscripts that will take a historical view and survey what happened to various multimedia technologies over the last 20 years, or bridges historical and futuristic views on how the past inventions influence the current and future multimedia inventions. TOPICS may include the following or similar topics: Historical view of • multimedia synchronization • multimedia content analysis and retrieval • data mining and knowledge discovery for multimedia • multimedia streaming • multimedia schedulers • human-computer interactions for multimedia. Impact of past inventions on current and future • multimedia coding standards • interactive technologies • multimedia interfaces • multimedia content distribution • multimedia content understanding and search capabilities.
