THIRTY-EIGHTH ANNUAL INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE Teton Village, Jackson Hole, Wyoming January 27 -- February 1, 2013 Organizer: George Sperling, University of California, Irvine http://aris.ss.uci.edu/HIPLab/AIC CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT - CALL FOR PAPERS The ANNUAL INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE will return to Teton Village, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to meet for the 38th time, Jan 27 - Feb 1, 2013. For the first time, it will meet in a four-star hotel, the Teton Mountain Lodge and Spa <http://www.tetonlodge.com/> . The conference covers a wide range of subjects in what has come to be called cognitive science, ranging from visual and auditory physiology and psychophysics to human information processing, cognition, learning and memory, to computational approaches to these problems including neural networks, artificial intelligence and, most recently, brain imaging. The aim is to provide overview talks that are comprehensible and interesting to a wide scientific audience -- such as one might fantasize would occur at a National or Royal Academy of Science. The Conference begins with a reception on Sunday evening, January 27, at 5:30p followed by a half-session from 6:00-8:00p. Regular sessions meet from Monday through Friday at 4:00p to 8:00p; the rest of the day is free. After the last session on Friday, there is a banquet for participants and their guests. Paper submissions are hereby invited. Despite rumors that participation is by invitation (perhaps because of the high quality of the talks), the only way to participate is to: (1) email a title and abstract to the AIC conference organizer (sperling@uci.edu) on or before Friday, September 28, 2012 AND (2) complete the registration form at the AIC website http://aris.ss.uci.edu/HIPLab/AIC/registration.html AND (3) send a check for the registration fee to AIC, c/o Prof. George Sperling Department of Cognitive Sciences, SSPA-3 University of California Irvine, CA 92697-5100 Conference registration ($190, $225 after Jan 1, 2013, $75 for students) includes daily snacks and refreshments, and the closing banquet, and is payable by check (no credit cards) to "Annual Interdisciplinary Conference" mailed to the address above. Abstracts generally are accepted in the order submitted; in any case, applicants will be notified as soon as possible but no later than Friday, October 5, 2012, of the acceptance of proposed presentations. Registration fees for speakers are nonrefundable after October 5, but they are refundable at any time for nonspeaking participants. The 37 previous programs, photos, and hotel information are published on the AIC website; the 2013 program will be posted as it becomes available. Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa, in Jackson Hole, is directly at thebase of the ski slopes, a very short walk from the tram and other ski lifts. The Conference has arranged to reserve the Lodge's entire block of kitchenette suites at an extraordinarily low room rate. The rate ($135/night + extras) is less than half the lowest normally available rates for these rooms. THIS DEAL REQUIRES THE ROOMS TO BE RESERVED BEFORE OCTOBER 12. After that date, the special Conference rates expire. For details see http://aris.ss.uci.edu/HIPLab/AIC/For_Participants.html Two other hotels are immediately adjacent to the Teton Mountain Lodge and Spa: the Hotel Terra and The Inn at Jackson Hole. Many other hotels, restaurants, ski rental facilities, shops, and cross-country ski trails are all within a short walk. There are flights directly to Jackson Hole AP from Chicago, Denver, and Salt Lake City (taxi or bus to the hotel) plus occasional flights from other major cities. Alternatively, Jackson is a five-hour drive from Salt Lake City. Additional information about the conference, travel, and skiing opportunities, is available at the AIC website.
