5th International Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Information Retrieval - KDIR 2013 Call for Papers

CALL FOR PAPERS 5th International Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Information Retrieval - KDIR 2013 Website: http://www.kdir.ic3k.org September 19 - 22, 2013 Vilamoura, Algarve, Portugal Position Papers Paper Submission: May 16, 2013 Authors Notification: June 24, 2013 Camera Ready and Registration: July 5, 2013 Special Sessions Paper Submission: June 24, 2013 Authors Notification: July 11, 2013 Camera Ready and Registration: July 22, 2013 Knowledge Discovery is an interdisciplinary area focusing upon methodologies for identifying valid, novel, potentially useful and meaningful patterns from data, often based on underlying large data sets. A major aspect of Knowledge Discovery is data mining, i.e. applying data analysis and discovery algorithms that produce a particular enumeration of patterns (or models) over the data. Knowledge Discovery also includes the evaluation of patterns and identification of which add to knowledge. Information retrieval (IR) is concerned with gathering relevant information from unstructured and semantically fuzzy data in texts and other media, searching for information within documents and for metadata about documents, as well as searching relational databases and the Web. Automation of information retrieval enables the reduction of what has been called "information overload". Information retrieval can be combined with knowledge discovery to create software tools that empower users of decision support systems to better understand and use the knowledge underlying large data sets. KDIR 2013 is part of the International Joint Conference on Conference on Knowledge Discovery, Knowledge Engineering and Knowledge Management (IC3K 2013) that has 2 more conferences with very strong synergies between them, namely: - KEOD: International Conference on Knowledge Engineering and Ontology Development (http://www.keod.ic3k.org/) - KMIS: International Conference on Knowledge Management and Information Sharing (http://www.kmis.ic3k.org/) These three concurrent conferences are held in parallel and registration to one warrants delegates to attend all three. KEYNOTE SPEAKERS Alan Eardley, Staffordshire University, United Kingdom David Aveiro, University of Madeira, Portugal Belur V. Dasarathy, Information Fusion, United States PUBLICATIONS All accepted papers (full and short) will be published in the conference proceedings, under an ISBN reference, on paper and on CD-ROM support. All papers presented at the conference venue will be available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library (http://www.scitepress.org/DigitalLibrary/). SCITEPRESS is member of CrossRef (http://www.crossref.org/). A short list of presented papers will be selected so that revised and extended versions of these papers will be published by Springer-Verlag in a CCIS Series book. The proceedings will be submitted for indexation by Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (ISI), INSPEC, DBLP and EI (Elsevier Index). AWARDS The awards will be announced and bestowed at the conference closing session.
