17th Conference on Medical Image Understanding and Analysis Call for Participation

17th Conference on Medical Image Understanding and Analysis 17 - 19 July 2013, Birmingham, United Kingdom http://www.miua.org.uk CALL FOR PARTICIPATION Early registration deadline: 13 June 2013 This 17th annual technical meeting will be hosted in Birmingham in 2013. MIUA is the principal UK forum for communicating research progress within the community interested in image analysis applied to medicine and related biological science. It has been a successful series begun in Oxford in 1997. The meetings are designed for the dissemination and discussion of research in medical image understanding and analysis, an expanding area in which significant advances are currently being made. It is an area notable for the range of research communities involved, and the meeting aims to encourage the growth and raise the profile of this multi-disciplinary field by bringing together the various communities. MIUA 2013 is a single-track conference with oral and poster presentations and an excellent programme of keynote lectures from the leading international experts in molecular imaging, translational research and machine learning for quantitative image analysis. We are grateful to the following three speakers who have agreed to give keynote lectures at the conference (http://events.cs.bham.ac.uk/miua2013/keynoteSpeakers.php): KEYNOTE SPEAKERS *Professor Boudewijn Lelieveldt* (Leiden University Medical Centre, Netherlands) *Professor Daniel Rueckert* (Imperial College London, U.K.) *Professor Milan Sonka* (The University of Iowa, U.S.A.) PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP This year’s pre-conference workshop (17th July) on *optical molecular imaging* will be given by Dr Hamid Dehghani (http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/~dehghanh/research/), one of the leading experts in the field and co-developer of the NIRFAST package for modelling of light propagation in tissue (http://www.nirfast.org/). The tutorial is particularly beneficial to research students and early career researchers. CONFERENCE DINNER Venue for the conference dinner (18th July) is the *Edgbaston Cricket Ground* pavilion. There will be an opportunity to have a guided tour of the ground and its facilities.
