1st International Workshop on Image Retrieval in Remote Sensing (IR2S 2014) Call for Papers

--------- First Call for Papers. 1st International Workshop on Image Retrieval in Remote Sensing (IR2S 2014) This workshop is organized as a satellite event of ACM International Conference on Multimedia Retrieval (ICMR 2014) and will be held April 1st 2014 at University of Glasgow, U.K. Website: https://sites.google.com/site/ir2s2014 --- Important dates --- Submission: February 1st, 2014 Notification: March 1st, 2014 Workshop date: April 1st, 2014 --- Workshop chairs --- Sébastien Lefèvre - sebastien.lefevre@univ-ubs.fr Philippe-Henri Gosselin - gosselin@ensea.fr --- Program Committee --- Selim Aksoy (Bilkent U.,Turkey) Erchan Aptoula (Okan U., Turkey) Jon Atli Benediktsson (U. of Iceland, Iceland) Jenny Benois-Pineau (U. of Bordeaux, France) Lorenzo Bruzzone (U. of Trento, Italy) Jocelyn Chanussot (Grenoble Institute of Tech., France) Mathieu Cord (UPMC, France) Mihai Datcu (DLR, Germany) Paolo Gamba (U. of Pavia, Italy) Philippe-Henri Gosselin (ENSEA, France) Lionel Gueguen (DigitalGlobe, Germany) Sébastien Lefèvre (U. of Bretagne-Sud, France) Bernard Merialdo (EURECOM, France) Antonio Plaza (U. of Extremadura, Spain) Ricardo da Silva Torres (U. of Campins, Brazil) Pierre Soille (JRC, Italy) Devis Tuia (EPFL, Switzerland) to be completed --- Scope --- The proliferation of earth observation satellites, together with their continuously increasing performances, provides today a massive amount of geospatial data. Analysis and exploration of such data leads to various applications, from agricultural monitoring to crisis management and global security. However, they also raise very challenging problems, e.g. dealing with extremely large and real time geospatial data, or user-friendly querying and retrieval satellite images or mosaics. The purpose of this workshop is to address these challenges, and to allow researchers from multimedia retrieval and remote sensing to meet and share their experiences in order to build the remote sensing retrieval systems of tomorrow. --- Topics of interest --- Content- and context-based indexing, search and retrieval of RS data Search and browsing on RS Web repositories to face the Peta/Zettabyte scale Advanced descriptors and similarity metrics dedicated to RS data Usage of knowledge and semantic information for retrieval in RS Maching learning for image retrieval in remote sensing Query models, paradigms, and languages dedicated to RS Multimodal / multi-obsevations (sensors, dates, resolutions) analysis of RS data HCI issues in RS retrieval and browsing Evaluation of RS retrieval systems High performance indexing algorithms for RS data Summarization and visualization of very large satellite image datasets Applications of image retrieval in remote sensing --- Paper submission --- Papers must follow the ICMR submission guidelines, including the double-blind review process (see 'Call for Submissions', 'Full papers' and 'Short papers' sections at the ICMR website http://www.icmr2014.org). Two paper tracks are considered: long papers (8 pages) and short papers (4 pages). All accepted papers will be presented in oral sessions (10-15 minutes for short papers, 20-30 minutes for long papers). Submissions should be made through the EasyChair IR2S 2014 website (https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ir2s2014). --- Proceedings --- Papers will be published following the rules of ICMR workshops. Participants to the workshop will be invited to submit their contributions to a journal special issue for which the workshop chairs will serve as guest editors. --- Venue --- This workshop will be collocated with ICMR 2014 in Glasgow University, Scotland. Glasgow is Scotland's largest city and offers the best of both worlds. It is distinctly cosmopolitan with beautiful architecture, world class conference venues and numerous cultural attractions combined with some of the most breathtaking scenery only half an hour away.
