CALL FOR PAPERS International Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Information Retrieval KDIR website: http://www.kdir.ic3k.org/ October 21 - 24, 2014 Rome, Italy In Cooperation with: ERCIM, AAAI, ACM SIGMIS and ACM SIGART Sponsored by: INSTICC INSTICC is Member of: FIPA, WfMC and OMG Logistics Partner: SCITEVENTS IMPORTANT DATES: Regular Paper Submission: April 22, 2014 Authors Notification (regular papers): July 14, 2014 Final Regular Paper Submission and Registration: July 29, 2014 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dear Keith Price, Let me kindly inform you that the International Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Information Retrieval (KDIR 2014 - http://www.kdir.ic3k.org/) steering committee cordially invites you to submit a paper to the KDIR 2014 Conference, to be held in Rome, Italy. The deadline for paper submission is scheduled for April 22, 2014. Knowledge Discovery is an interdisciplinary area focusing upon methodologies for identifying valid, novel, potentially useful and meaningful patterns from data, often based on underlying large data sets. A major aspect of Knowledge Discovery is data mining, i.e. applying data analysis and discovery algorithms that produce a particular enumeration of patterns (or models) over the data. Knowledge Discovery also includes the evaluation of patterns and identification of which add to knowledge. Information retrieval (IR) is concerned with gathering relevant information from unstructured and semantically fuzzy data in texts and other media, searching for information within documents and for metadata about documents, as well as searching relational databases and the Web. Automation of information retrieval enables the reduction of what has been called "information overload". Information retrieval can be combined with knowledge discovery to create software tools that empower users of decision support systems to better understand and use the knowledge underlying large data sets. KDIR 2014 is co-located with two related conferences in a joint conference (IC3K - http://www.ic3k.org/) format, namely: - Knowledge Engineering and Ontology Development (http://www.keod.ic3k.org/) - Knowledge Management and Information Sharing (http://www.kmis.ic3k.org/) Registration to one conference allows free access to all conferences. KDIR is interested in promoting high quality research as it can be confirmed by last year acceptance rates, where from 63 submissions, 11% were accepted as full papers. Additionally, 19% were presented as short papers and 22% as posters. We would like to highlight the presence of the following keynote speakers: Domenico Talia, University of Calabria and ICAR-CNR, Italy Sonia Bergamaschi, DII - Universita di Modena e Reggio Emilia, Italy Michele Missikoff, IASI-CNR, Italy Wil Van Der Aalst, Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, Netherlands Wim Van Grembergen, University of Antwerp, Belgium Marie-Jeanne Lesot, Universite Pierre et Marie Curie - LIP6, France. Submitted papers will be subject to a double-blind review process. All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, under an ISBN reference, on paper and on CD-ROM support. A short list of presented papers will be selected so that revised and extended versions of these papers will be published by Springer-Verlag in a CCIS Series book. The proceedings will be submitted for indexation by Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (ISI), INSPEC, DBLP, EI (Elsevier Index) and Scopus. All papers presented at the conference venue will be available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library (http://www.scitepress.org/DigitalLibrary/). SCITEPRESS is a member of CrossRef (http://www.crossref.org/). Best paper awards will be distributed during the conference closing session. Please check the website for further information (http://www.kdir.ic3k.org/BestPaperAward.aspx). Workshops, special sessions, tutorials as well as demonstrations dedicated to other technical/scientific topics are also envisaged: companies interested in presenting their products/methodologies or researchers interested in holding a tutorial are invited to contact the conference secretariat. Workshop chairs and Special Session chairs will benefit from logistics support and other types of support, including secretariat and financial support, to facilitate the development of a valid idea. We hope to welcome you in Rome, Italy next October, 2014! Should you have any question please don't hesitate contacting me. Kind regards, Vera Coelho KDIR Secretariat Av. D.
