2nd Workshop on Resources AWare Sensor and surveillance NETworkS (RAWSNETS 2014) Call for Papers

==================================================================== 2nd Workshop on Resources AWare Sensor and surveillance NETworkS (RAWSNETS 2014) November 4, Venezia, Italy Associated with the 8th ACM/IEEE International Conference on Distributed Smart Cameras (ICDSC 2014) http://avires.dimi.uniud.it/rawsnets/ _CALL FOR PAPERS_ Sensor networks for surveillance systems have been extensively studied in the last years. For example, in the field of visual sensors, the research has focused on various problems such as object detection & classification, target localization, people re-identification, behavior analysis and anomaly detection, etc. However, the proposed techniques often do not consider the practical limitations to be faced when dealing with real-world implementations, where resources consumption becomes a focus issue. This is especially important when the network size increases and the recorded events increase proportionally. On one hand, restrictions on computational power could lead to use ad-hoc embedded sensors, capable of processing most information locally. On the other hand, limited communication bandwidth requires distributed algorithms to reduce the amount of propagetated data across the entire network. Power consumption can be a key factor too, especially if the sensors rely on limited power sources, e.g. solar panels. Thus, it is not surprising that the current research in the field of sensor networks is more and more interested in dealing with resource-related problems. The workshop focuses on the most recent advances in the field of resource-aware sensors and surveillance networks. We invite original contributions on these topics, including but not limited to: * Embedded processing for surveillance sensors * Distributed surveillance systems * Wide area surveillance * Optimized network deployment and configuration * Context aware sensor networks * Networks of sensor nodes with heterogeneous resources * Resource-aware task assignment _Paper Submission_ Submitted papers cannot exceed the 6 pages limit using the ACM 2-columns format.
