The ANNUAL INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE 2015 Call for Papers

The ANNUAL INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE http://aris.ss.uci.edu/HIPLab/AIC/ will meet for the 40th time, February 1 - February 6, 2015 in Teton Village, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, again at the the Inn in Jackson Hole http://www.innatjh.com where the Conference met for 25 years from 1987 to 2011. The Inn is located at the base of the ski slopes, a short walk to the tram and other ski lifts. Paper submissions are hereby invited. Despite rumors that participation is by invitation (perhaps because of the high quality of the talks), the only way to participate as a speaker is to: (1) email a title and abstract to the AIC conference organizer (as per the web page registration form) on or before Friday, September 19, 2014 AND (2) complete the registration form at the AIC website http://aris.ss.uci.edu/HIPLab/AIC/RegistrationForm.php AND (3) send a check for the registration fee ($190; $250 after Oct 3, 2013; $95 for students) payable to AIC c/o Prof. George Sperling Department of Cognitive Sciences, SSPA-3 University of California Irvine, CA 92697-5100 Nonspeaking participants also must register and are welcome up to the capacity of the meeting room (50). In addition to the usual potpourri of submitted talks, three special groups of talks are being organized. If your proposed presentation falls into one of these areas, also send a copy of the title and abstract to the relevant organizer. Higher-Level Vision (Zygmunt Pizlo): Visual neuroscience, topic to be determined: (Tatiana Pasternak, John Reynolds, Steven Shevell): Perceptual Learning (Barbara Dosher, Zhong-Lin Lu): Conference registration includes daily snacks and refreshments, and the closing banquet. Applicants will be notified as soon as possible, and not later than Friday, September 26, 2014, of the acceptance of proposed presentations. Registration fees for speakers are nonrefundable after September 26, but they are refundable at any time for nonspeaking participants. The 39 previous programs, photos, and hotel information are published on the AIC website; the 2015 program will be posted as it becomes available. ----------------- The Conference begins with a reception on Sunday evening, February 1, at 5:30p followed by a half-session from 6:00-8:00p. Regular sessions meet from Monday (Feb 2) through Friday (Feb 6) at 4:00p to 8:00p; the rest of the day is free. After the last session on Friday, there is a banquet for participants and their guests. The AIC covers a wide range of subjects in what has come to be called cognitive science, ranging from visual and auditory physiology and psychophysics to human information processing, cognition, learning and memory, to computational approaches to these problems including neural networks, artificial intelligence and, most recently, brain imaging. The aim is to provide overview talks that are comprehensible and interesting to a wide scientific audience -- such as one might fantasize would occur at a National or Royal Academy of Science. For lodging details see http://aris.ss.uci.edu/HIPLab/AIC/For_Participants.html Two other hotels are immediately adjacent to the Inn in Jackson Hole: the Hotel Terra and The Teton Mountain Lodge and Spa. Many other hotels, restaurants, ski rental facilities, shops, and cross-country ski trails are all within a short walk. There are frequent daily flights directly to Jackson Hole (JAC) from Denver and Salt Lake City, plus less frequent flights from Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, and other major cities. Teton Village is a 40 min bus or taxi drive from Jackson Airport; alternatively it is a five-hour drive from Salt Lake City. Additional information about the conference, travel, and skiing opportunities, is available on the AIC webpage.
